St James's Park is one of London's eight Royal Parks, cared for by The Royal Parks charity. St James's Park is at the heart of ceremonial London.

It is the setting for spectacular pageants, like Trooping the Colour, and is surrounded by some of the country's most famous landmarks including Buckingham Palace, Clarence House, St James's Palace and Westminster. But there is also another side to St James's Park; it is a tranquil place. Simply relax in a deckchair and watch the world go by. The flower beds and shrubberies are enjoyed by visitors

๐Ÿ“ข As we welcome everyone to the parks to enjoy the warmer weather this weekend, we want to offer a reminder around the increased risk of wildfires due to these higher temperatures and dry ground.

โŒ Please remember that BBQs are not permitted in the parks, and make sure that cigarette ends are completely out and properly disposed of.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Fires in the parks put people in danger, cause devastating harm to wildlife, damage to landscapes and habitats, and a strain on the emergency services.

๐Ÿš’ If you do spot a fire in the park then use what3words to give an exact location to London Fire Brigade.

๐Ÿšฎ Visitors are also reminded to take litter home or place it in bins as glass bottles increase the risk of a fire.

๐ŸŠ Finally, although you may be looking for ways to keep cool, swimming in any lake or waterbody within the Royal Parks is forbidden apart from in the Serpentine Lido at designated times.

๐Ÿ™Œ Your cooperation helps us keep the parks safe for all to enjoy.

As part of Drowning Prevention Week, weโ€™re proud to have delivered our very first water safety schools session: Water Wise ๐Ÿ’ง

This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to working with local communities to actively promote and educate young people about staying safe around water.

Delivered in partnership with our water safety experts at the Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK, these sessions help build awareness, confidence, and life-saving knowledge from an early age.

Today the students learned:
- How to stay safe around the parksโ€™ water bodies and how to deal with an emergency
- How to play their part in caring for the parksโ€™ ponds and lakes
- About the fascinating variety of wildlife found on and beneath the waterโ€™s surface

By investing in education, weโ€™re helping our young visitors to understand, value and care for the parks while enjoying them safely.

We are delighted to announce that the pitter patter of pelican chicks is being heard in St James's Park for the first time in 360 years ๐Ÿ™Œ

This comes after four pelican chicks hatched in the park late last month, marking a huge milestone for The Royal Parks ๐Ÿฃ

We are now working closely with Blackpool Zoo, ZSL and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, to provide expert care for the chicks, who are currently being protected in an area of the park that is not accessible to visitors, and the six other pelicans who are receiving extra food ๐ŸŸ

The chicks, which are yet to be named, are expected to take to the water at around three months of age to join the older pelicans. Until then, they are highly vulnerable, and we are urging visitors to give them space, avoid disturbing them and to continue to keep dogs on leads around the lakeside ๐Ÿ•

Tens of thousands of people today watched on from St James's Park as more than 30 aircraft, 200 horses, the Massed Bands of the Household Division and 1,400 service personnel of the armed forces marked His Majesty The Kingโ€™s Official Birthday ๐Ÿ’‚โ€โ™‚๏ธ ๐Ÿด โœˆ๏ธ

This year saw the Kingโ€™s Company, 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards Troop their Colour on Horse Guards Parade.

A 41 Gun Royal Salute was also held within The Green Park by The King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Today marks the start of Drowning Prevention Week, led by the Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK โ€“ our trusted water safety partner here at The Royal Parks.

If youโ€™re visiting the parks, especially during the warmer weather, please remember to stay safe around water:

๐Ÿ›Ÿ Always swim in a lifeguarded area โ€“ swimming is only allowed at The Serpentine Lido in Hyde Park
๐Ÿ›Ÿ Never enter the water alone
๐Ÿ›Ÿ Cold water shock can affect anyone, even when the weatherโ€™s warm โ€“ enter the water slowly
๐Ÿ›Ÿ If you see someone in trouble, call 999 โ€“ donโ€™t enter the water to rescue

Help us keep everyone safe by sticking to designated areas, respecting guidance around our lakes and water bodies and following the Water Safety Code.

On this day 80 years ago The Mall in St James's Park played host to a parade featuring 10,000 servicemen and women, 400 vehicles and over 300 aircraft as part of London Victory Celebrations of 1946 to mark victory in the Second World War โœˆ๏ธ
