πŸ… Grasmere Olympics – Day 2 (Part 2): Beanbag Bullseye Challenge! 🎯

Our second event of the day saw residents take on our one-to-one Beanbag Bullseye Challenge! Everyone had one practice throw before taking four scoring attempts to see how many points they could collect.

To make sure everyone could enjoy the game and feel successful, we created three different difficulty levels. Residents could choose to throw from a Shorter Distance (25 inches), Standard Distance (45 inches) or, for those wanting an extra challenge, the Expert Distance (55 inches).

There was even a Beanbag Bullseye Bonus – any beanbag landing directly in the centre earned an extra 50 bonus points! πŸŽ‰

It was wonderful to see so many residents taking part, encouraging one another, and having lots of laughs along the way. Congratulations to all our winners and everyone who joined in!

πŸ…πŸŒΏ Grasmere Olympics – Day 2! πŸŒΏπŸ…

Today our Grasmere Olympians headed out into the garden for Lawn Darts – our safer version of the javelin event!

Each contestant was given three attempts to throw the lawn dart as far as possible. Distances were carefully measured using chalk markers along the garden path, adding a competitive edge and plenty of excitement to the challenge.

There was lots of encouragement, laughter, and friendly rivalry as residents cheered one another on and celebrated every good throw. It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the fresh air and taking part in the Olympic spirit.

The competition isn't over yet! There may be more residents joining this event over the coming days, so the leaderboard could still change as the Grasmere Olympics continues.

Who will be our Lawn Darts champion? Stay tuned to find out! πŸ†

πŸ…β›³ The Grasmere Olympics – Day 1! β›³πŸ…

Today marked the start of the Grasmere Olympics, and our first event was Putting!

We wanted to make sure as many residents as possible could take part, so the activity was adapted to suit individual abilities. Residents could choose to stand and putt, remain seated, or, for those with limited mobility, we brought the putting game directly to them so they could still enjoy the challenge.

It was wonderful to see so many residents getting involved, cheering each other on, and enjoying the friendly competition. There were plenty of smiles, laughter, and determination on display throughout the afternoon.

A special congratulations goes to Rosemary, who was our runaway winner with an impressive score of 30 points! πŸŽ‰

We'll be sharing more updates as the Grasmere Olympics continues throughout the week. Stay tuned to see what events are coming next! πŸ†

🎯 Darts with a Twist at Grasmere! 🎯
A game of darts had been requested by several residents, so this afternoon we brought it into the home β€” with safety in mind, using acrylic-tipped darts.
We started with a seated darts challenge, with residents aiming for the highest scores and enjoying a little friendly competition. There were smiles, laughter, and a few surprisingly good shots!
But then we asked ourselves a question: How can we make this activity accessible to even more people?
That's when Gravity Darts was born! 🎯✨
Instead of throwing the dart, residents simply dropped it onto the dartboard from above. It sounds simple, but it still required accuracy, dexterity, and control to guide the dart towards the chosen target. The result was a game that was both engaging and inclusive, allowing more residents to take part and enjoy the challenge.
Who knows? We may have just invented a brand-new sport! πŸ˜„
It's always wonderful to see how a small adaptation can help more people join in, build confidence, and share in the fun together.
🎯😊

Great creativity at Grasmere today! β˜€οΈπŸ«–

With the weather being so warm, we decided to keep things calm and relaxed indoors β€” and what a lovely afternoon it turned into.

The residents were shown the printed versions of their recent poems, beautifully illustrated with the help of ChatGPT, and everyone really enjoyed reading them again and sharing memories of creating them together.

Feeling inspired in the moment, the group decided to write another poem β€” this time, an ode to a cup of tea! β˜•
It was wonderful to see everyone contributing ideas, lines, rhymes, and laughter as the poem slowly came together.

Moments like this remind us that creativity has no age limit, and that amazing things can happen when people work together and put their minds to something.

Here is the poem β€” we hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed creating it. ❀️

After the success of last week’s poem, we thought… could we do it again? β˜€οΈβœοΈ

Amazingly, our residents created not one, but TWO new poems together this morning! We wrote a lovely gentle poem about the summer sun, followed by a fun little limerick about a lady called Jane that had everyone smiling and laughing along. 😊

It has been wonderful watching the creativity, humour, and imagination of our residents shine through each week. The poetry sessions are quickly becoming a favourite part of our activities programme β€” and at this rate, we may end up creating our very own Grasmere poetry book! πŸ“–βœ¨

Who knows… perhaps we have some hidden poets among us after all. ❀️
