🇧🇩🇬🇧 The British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Sarah Cooke, paid a courtesy call on Hon’ble Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday, 18 June 2026, at the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat.
The meeting discussed ways to further strengthen Bangladesh–UK relations, with a focus on practical cooperation in technical education and training, expanded bilateral trade and investment.
🤝 These areas of cooperation hold strong potential to create jobs, promote skills development, and generate new opportunities for both countries, including through deeper economic links and stronger people-to-people ties.
✈️ The discussion also touched on prospects for British investment in Bangladesh’s aviation sector following the opening of the Third Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs, Humaiun Kobir, were present at the meeting.

A 14-member delegation from the UK Bangladesh Catalysts of Commerce & Industry (UKBCCI), led by President M G Moula Miah, MBE, met with Acting High Commissioner Dr Nazrul Islam ahead of their upcoming visit to Bangladesh to explore new trade and investment opportunities.
The interactive session, facilitated by Commercial Counsellor Tanvir Mohammad Azim, featured a productive exchange on enhancing bilateral business cooperation. Discussions highlighted Bangladesh’s ongoing efforts to diversify its export portfolio and its readiness to welcome foreign investors, supported by improved infrastructure, modern amenities, and attractive investment incentives.

Representatives of the Bangladesh Caterers Association (BCA), led by President Oli Khan MBE, paid a courtesy call on Acting High Commissioner Dr Nazrul Islam at the Bangladesh High Commission in London.
The delegation highlighted BCA’s longstanding contribution to the UK’s renowned curry industry and its pivotal role in fostering entrepreneurship, community cohesion, and economic empowerment among British Bangladeshis.
Commending the Association’s remarkable achievements, the Acting High Commissioner lauded BCA’s contribution to strengthening Bangladesh–UK ties and encouraged its members to explore the growing opportunities in Bangladesh’s trade, investment, and tourism sectors.

During a two-day visit to Scotland, Acting High Commissioner Dr Nazrul Islam met The Right Honourable Lord Provost of The City of Edinburgh, Robert Aldridge, and exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, with a particular focus on cultural cooperation and the welfare and contributions of the growing Bangladeshi diaspora in Edinburgh. Assistant High Commissioner in Manchester Mr. Mohammad Jobayed Hosen was present in the meetings.
The Acting High Commissioner also attended a discussion on Foreign Investment and Business Opportunities in Bangladesh, jointly organised by the Honorary Consulate of Bangladesh in Edinburgh and the local Bangladeshi community. The event highlighted Bangladesh’s dynamic economic landscape and emerging investment prospects.
In addition, he held interactive meetings with members of the Bangladeshi community in Dundee and Kinross, encouraging greater engagement in promoting trade, investment, and people-to-people connectivity between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom.
