Today marks World Refugee Day.

We wanted to recognise this day by sharing the story of a survivor we supported in her own words.

Zahra* came to Solace after experiencing domestic abuse by her husband. He would force her and her son out of their home, knowing she did not have indefinite leave to remain. He also threatened to kill her and bury her alive.

Despite Zahra’s uncertain immigration status, Solace was able to support her and her son in finding safe accommodation and accessing the support they needed. Today, they are living safely.

If you’re a survivor of domestic abuse, please know you’re not alone. Solace is here for you.

Happy Pride Month 🌈

At Solace, we are committed to supporting all survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence, including trans women and non-binary people.

Many of our services remain open for trans survivors and non-binary people.

“We know that trans women and non-binary people are affected by misogyny, which causes harm to cis women and girls, and as such, supporting these survivors is core to Solace’s mission.” — Nahar Choudhury, CEO of Solace

Today we’re launching the Women’s Rough Sleeping Census 2025 report, Missing Women, a collaboration between Solace, , and .

For the fourth year in a row, the census reveals the same alarming reality: women experiencing homelessness are still being overlooked because official systems are searching for rough sleeping in the wrong places.

The census identified up to 10 times more women sleeping rough than official counts.

This report is more than a warning sign. It demonstrates that there is a better way to count, understand and respond to women’s homelessness.

The evidence is clear. Now is the time for action. We’re calling on the Government to make women’s homelessness visible.

Every year we publish, in partnership with , the Women’s Rough Sleeping Census to expose the true scale of women’s homelessness.

To keep themselves safe, women are less likely than men to 'bed down' for the night and are therefore more likely to be missed by official government counts.

We know that women often sit on buses, in 24 hour fast food restaurants or A&E to avoid abuse and sexual violence.

If women are missed by official counts, services are not developed with them in mind. This perpetuates their plight. We're here to end that cycle.

🔗 We will be publishing our latest findings later this week - keep an eye on this channel and our website.
