🌞 The day rolls on!
While our first cadets have already taken to the skies, we’re now welcoming the next wave of cadets to RAF Syerston, and our next shift of VGS personnel (B-Shift) has now arrived for Ex AEONIC PEGASUS! B-Shift will see us through today to the early evening before a full handover to C-Shift to close the day out!
From launch point crews and winch operators to pilots and instructors, every member of the team is working together to make today a success and maximise flying opportunities on the longest day operation.
The flying programme is in full swing, the weather is playing its part, and there’s plenty more to come.
✈️ One mission. Every launch counts.

Last week was fantastic for achievements at 644 VGS!
Congratulations to CWO Harry Sharman on completing his Advanced Gliding Training and being awarded his Gold Wings, and to CWO Meredith Rutland on being awarded her Bronze Wings.
CWO Sharman’s AGT was awarded by Flt Lt White, who achieved his own B1 Instructor Category only a few weeks ago. It’s great to see that he is already putting his qualification to good use in supporting our Flight Staff Cadets!
We would also like to congratulate CWO Meredith Rutland of 2160 Squadron, who was awarded her Bronze Wings following completion of her course.
Congratulations to Harry and Meredith on their achievements, and we look forward to seeing what they accomplish next.

Congratulations to CGI Dan Jowers on being awarded his B1 Instructor Category!
Last year during our Longest Day event, Dan flew his 1,000th launch in the Viking. Just one year later, a week before this year’s Longest Day, he has added another significant milestone to his gliding journey by achieving his B1 award.
This qualification allows Dan to send students on post-first solo sorties, and he can shortly begin working towards the role of Duty Supervisor. Following a period of training, Dan will be able to fulfil this role and lead the planning and ex*****on of our operations.
This achievement is the result of a huge amount of dedication, training, and commitment. We are incredibly proud to see another B1 award at 644 VGS, and we look forward to seeing Dan put this award to good use!
Congratulations, Dan!

More solo success for 644 VGS!
We’ve recently celebrated two more first solos here at 644.
Cdt FS Philips of 1237 (North Hykeham) Squadron has been undertaking a Silver Gliding Scholarship over the past two months and subsequently flew his first solo last weekend, successfully completing his scholarship.
Additionally, this weekend, Cpl Marwood, one of 644’s Service Instructors, also flew his first solo. This marks the first key milestone for Cpl Marwood as he continues to build experience on his journey towards becoming a graded pilot.
Many congratulations to both of you!

Congratulations to Flt Lt White who has recently been awarded his B1 instructional category by the Central Gliding School, exemplifying his strong instructional ability and enabling him to now send students on solo (post-first) sorties. Additionally, he can now commence his training to become a Duty Supervisor - a key role that enables our daily operations to take place.
This is a great achievement of which he should be very proud.
Well done, and congratulations Flt Lt White!

Congratulations to Cadet Sergeant Sherwood of 2430 (Holbeach) Squadron who last weekend completed his Silver Gliding Scholarship by flying his first solo sortie.
Sgt Sherwood began his gliding scholarship during our Easter Course, so it was great that he could return to complete the syllabus and fly his first solo!
This is great achievement, and one that he should be very proud of! Congratulations!
