As the days get warmer and more of us head to pools, rivers, beaches, and lakes, it’s more important than ever to raise awareness about water safety.

That’s why we’re supporting Drowning Prevention Week, a national campaign by RLSS UK to help reduce preventable drowning incidents across the country.

This campaign is all about:

Educating families and children on how to stay safe around water
Promoting key safety tips for swimming outdoors
Encouraging responsible behaviour near all bodies of water
Whether you're a confident swimmer or just starting out, everyone benefits from understanding how to stay safe in and around water.

Drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental death in the UK, and it can happen to anyone, regardless of age or swimming ability. That's why it's essential to be aware of the risks and take steps to prevent drowning.

Here are some tips to help keep you and your loved ones safe in and around water this summer:

• Always supervise children near water, and ensure they are wearing appropriate flotation devices if necessary.
• Never swim alone, and make sure there is always someone else around who can raise the alarm if you get into difficulty.
• Be aware of the conditions, such as strong currents, rip tides, and cold-water shock, that can make swimming hazardous.
• Learn to swim and improve your water skills, as this can reduce your risk of drowning.
• Always follow safety signs and advice from lifeguards.
