Need a break from this sun? We have lots of cool spaces found within the library, especially on the ground floor.

A very hot week here in Portsmouth…you can refill your water bottle and refresh at the refill stations around the library.

These can be found beside the soft seating near the library cafe, the toilets on the ground floor next to the library entrance, and on the second floor in Area 2B.

This latest exhibition from Social Work lecturer Dr Annabel Tremlett in collaboration with local GRT activity, author, artist, and community leader Amanda Garrie, explores connections with and between people with Gypsy, Roma, Traveller, Showpeople and Boatpeople (‘GRTSB’) heritages. These are all such different groups with different traditions, languages and cultural practices in countries across Europe. But they are still connected through histories of travelling and nomadism, strong affiliations to kin and community, with deep traditions in crafts, music, trading, toolmaking, and entertainment.

This exhibition of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller art, crafts and culture conveys the profound sense of familial and cultural heritage and survival despite frequent stigma, racism and discrimination.

Stop by the Library Atrium this week and enjoy our latest two displays

New for LGBTQIA+ History Month, the meticulously researched and poetically presented "Between silence and legibility" display by History student Megan Conway explores the ephemeral visibility of q***r female sexuality in early modern England

Opposite in the Atrium you can contribute to the interactive home and belonging exhibition, part of the Refugee Week celebrating the courage of people facing life after leaving home behind

EBSCO are preparing the next update to their Discovery Service interface. This time they are bringing back some favourite features, including:

* numbered pages of search results

* search and navigation tools all in one place under the search box

* all your projects and saved articles appearing in one place under the 'MyEBSCO' menu

The latest update hasn't arrived yet, but it will be exciting to know what you think when it does :)

Refugee Week brings people together across the UK to celebrate the contributions, creativity, and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary. For many people around the world, courage means leaving behind familiar places, loved ones, and memories in search of safety and a new beginning. Yet courage can also be found in everyday acts of kindness, connection, and hope.

Visit the interactive display in the Library Atrium (15-19 June), reflect, and share your thoughts and experiences on what home, belonging, and courage mean to you. Contribute a word, a phrase, or even a small object that reminds you of home, belonging or identity for our Objects of Belonging display.

Find out more about the display and what else is happening during Refugee Week over on the Library blog

Do you remember we said we were going to be shut on Saturday 27 June? That's not happening any more. The Library is open all through June as usual. The closure message might have made its way into official emails and onto MyPort, so if you see it elsewhere, please ignore this outdated information.

We expect to close for a day at some point in July while the electrician carries out essential maintenance work. We will let you know the details as soon as they are confirmed.
