Wymering Manor Volunteer Team

We are looking for any information relating to Wymering from the past 100 years. This could include photographs, documents, newspaper cuttings, letters, memories, stories, or any other items connected to Wymering Manor and its history. If you have anything you would be willing to share, we would love to hear from you.

Do you, or someone you know, have memories of the Portsmouth Blitz? Were you, or someone you know, at the 1939 FA Cup Final when Portsmouth won the Cup? Any first hand accounts, photographs, programmes, memorabilia, or family stories would be invaluable to our research.

Alongside this, we are looking for volunteers with an interest in local history to join our history team. We are currently collating and preserving over 500 years of information relating to Wymering and Wymering Manor, and we would welcome anyone who would like to help with research, archiving, transcription, or historical investigation.

What a glorious day today. 🌞 The volunteers have done lots of gardening 🌿🌻⚘️and we have also been delighted to welcome guests to our café again today. It's always good to share this wonderful house with local people. 😊

The volunteers have been really busy today, relocating our little shop from the entrance hall to the 'library' next to the Great Hall. This has enabled our stunning Jacobean staircases to be on full view and for visitors to now be able to comfortably step into the library (normally closed off) to see the beautiful historical details in there. This room does also show the major structural problem for which we are actively raising funds to repair. We hope you will visit us soon to check out our activities. 😊

A very big "thank you" to all who visited Wymering Manor Trust today, to enjoy our café and view the "Mini Manors" collection. We look forward very much to welcoming you again to our future events, or on Saturdays to our café. 🤗

📸 Do you have photographs, memories, or stories from the north of Portsmouth dating back over the last 100 years?

As part of the Portsmouth 100 celebrations, we’re looking for historic and contemporary photographs from Cosham, Wymering, Paulsgrove, Drayton, Farlington, and Portchester that could be displayed as part of our community exhibitions and events.

We’re especially keen to hear stories from Wymering and its residents—whether it’s memories of local life, schools, businesses, community events, or family experiences that help tell the story of the area over the past century.

We’re also seeking any information, photographs, documents, or memories relating to Wymering Manor, both from its historic past and its more recent history.

If you have something you’d like to share, we’d love to hear from you. Every photograph, story, and memory helps us celebrate the people, places, and communities that have shaped Portsmouth over the last 100 years.
