West African ministers, investors, agribusiness leaders, and technical experts gathered in Ghana to discuss concrete financial and technical partnerships to support National Rice Investment Action Plans and help West Africa move closer toward rice self-sufficiency by 2035. Over $1.54 billion in indicative investment commitments were made by 16 countries.

The 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 concluded with a clear and strong message: the region needs more investment in rice to boost food security, cut imports, and create jobs.

Through the “Accra Declaration”, West African governments and partners committed to achieving rice self-sufficiency by 2035 through a coordinated regional approach, backed by a $28 billion investment envelope.

Turning ambition into action will require:
➡️ Robust regional collaboration
➡️ Targeted investments in areas such as irrigation, seed systems, machinery, milling, storage, transport, and trade
➡️ National strategies to drive job creation and build a more resilient rice economy
