Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Αρχείων 2026

Αρχειακό υλικό στα λευκώματα (scrapbooks) του Ιωάννη Γενναδίου

Εκτός από βιβλία, ο Ιωάννης Γεννάδιος συνέλεγε φωτογραφίες, χαρακτικά, αποκόμματα και ποικίλο έντυπο υλικό, τα οποία συγκέντρωσε σε 250 μεγάλους τόμους λευκωμάτων (scrapbooks). Τα λευκώματα καλύπτουν θέματα όπως η ιστορία, η αρχαιολογία, η αρχιτεκτονική, η τέχνη και η οικογένεια Γενναδίου, και αποτελούν πολύτιμη πηγή για τη νεότερη ελληνική ιστορία και τη ζωή ενός διπλωμάτη στο Λονδίνο. Σήμερα, σημαντικό μέρος τους είναι διαθέσιμο διαδικτυακά χάρη σε πρόσφατα έργα ψηφιοποίησης και τεκμηρίωσης του ΕΣΠΑ, με αξιοποίηση τεχνητής νοημοσύνης.

World Archives Day 2026

Archival material in the Scrapbooks of Joannes Gennadius

Beyond books, Joannes Gennadius amassed photographs, prints, newspaper clippings, invitations, and other printed ephemera, compiling them into 250 large scrapbooks. Covering subjects ranging from history and archaeology to architecture, art, and the Gennadius family, these volumes offer a unique resource for modern Greek history and the life of a diplomat in London. Today, much of the collection is available online thanks to recent EU-funded digitization projects that used artificial intelligence to enhance its cataloguing.

World Environment Day 2026!

Ολοκληρώθηκε η υποβολή συμμετοχών στο μαθητικό διαγωνισμό της Γενναδείου Βιβλιοθήκης με θέμα «Ο τόπος μου», που διοργανώθηκε με αφορμή τη συμπλήρωση 100 χρόνων λειτουργίας της!

Κάθε τόπος κρύβει μια ιστορία — και μέσα από τα μάτια των μαθητών, αυτές οι ιστορίες ζωντάνεψαν με μοναδικό τρόπο.

Θερμά συγχαρητήρια σε όλους τους μαθητές και τις μαθήτριες για τα εμπνευσμένα έργα τους, καθώς και στους εκπαιδευτικούς που καθοδήγησαν δημιουργικά την προσπάθειά τους.

Οι νικητές και οι νικήτριες θα τιμηθούν σε ειδική εκδήλωση στις 26 Σεπτεμβρίου, ενώ τα βραβευθέντα έργα θα αναρτηθούν στον ιστότοπο της Γενναδείου Βιβλιοθήκης.

Submissions for the student competition organized by the Gennadius Library on the theme “The Place where I come from”, as part of the celebration of the Library’s 100 years of operation, have been completed!

Every place holds a story — and through the eyes of students, those stories came to life in remarkable ways. Congratulations to all the students for their inspiring projects, and to the teachers who guided them throughout this creative journey.

The winners will be honored at a special award ceremony on September 26, and their works will be featured on the Gennadius Library website.

Πάει ο παλιός ο χρόνος… —Ένας αποχαιρετισμός και μια νέα αρχή

Καθώς ένας ακόμη κύκλος υποτροφιών φτάνει στο τέλος του, αποχαιρετούμε με θερμές ευχές τους υποτρόφους του 2025–26 και παράλληλα, καλωσορίζουμε με μεγάλη χαρά τη νέα ομάδα υποτρόφων για το ακαδημαϊκό έτος 2026–27.

Σας περιμένουμε στην εκδήλωση «Η Ακαδημία και η Κοινωνία», μια συζήτηση με τους Peter Miller, Νικηφόρο Διαμαντούρο και Ανδρέα Ζομπανάκη γύρω από το μέλλον των ανθρωπιστικών και κοινωνικών επιστημών, τον αντίκτυπο της τεχνολογίας στην έρευνα και τη δημόσια ζωή, αλλά και τον ρόλο της δημόσιας και ιδιωτικής χρηματοδότησης στη στήριξη των πολιτιστικών ιδρυμάτων.

Με αφετηρία την εμπειρία της Αμερικανικής Σχολής Κλασικών Σπουδών στην Αθήνα, της Αμερικανικής Ακαδημίας της Ρώμης, της Γενναδείου Βιβλιοθήκης και της Ακαδημίας Αθηνών.

Join Peter Miller, Nikiforos Diamantouros, and Andreas Zombanakis for “Academies and Society,” a conversation on the future of the humanities and social sciences, technology’s impact on scholarship and public life, and the role of public and private support in sustaining cultural institutions.

Drawing on the experiences of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, the American Academy in Rome, the Gennadius Library, and the Academy of Athens.

Held in English with simultaneous interpretation provided.
