World No To***co Day 2026
World No To***co Day was observed in Mizoram on 29th May 2026 (Friday), ahead of the global observance on May 31st. Organized by the National To***co Control Programme, NHM, Mizoram, this year’s theme, “Unmasking the Appeal – Countering Ni****ne and To***co Addiction,” highlights the importance of protecting communities from to***co and ni****ne dependence.
In Aizawl, the programme was held at the DHME Auditorium under the leadership of Dr. R. Lalchhuanawma, Mission Director, National Health Mission, Mizoram. He emphasized the responsibility of healthcare providers to remain to***co-free, maintain 100% to***co-free health facilities, strengthen awareness during home visits, and work together towards building a To***co-Free Generation.

Today, on the 16th May 2026, the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) under the Department of Health & Family Welfare and National Health Mission observed “National Dengue Day,2026.” National Dengue Day was first launched in 2016 under the initiative of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, and is observed as an opportunity to educate the public on important information regarding dengue and ways to protect ourselves from the disease. This special day is also being observed across different districts of Mizoram through public awareness activities on television and newspapers, as well as collaborative programmes with schools, churches, local communities, and various organizations.
Dengue is highly prevalent in many parts of India. In Mizoram, from January to April 2026, a total of 2,055 suspected dengue cases were tested, out of which 132 cases were confirmed, with no deaths reported. During the year 2025, a total of 1,482 dengue cases were detected in Mizoram, and no deaths were recorded. Across India, the total number of dengue cases detected in 2025 was 121,824, with 131 deaths reported. In January and February 2026 alone, 6,927 dengue cases and 10 deaths have already been reported nationwide.
