Allahabad lost a veteran!

Eminent jurist and former Law Minister of India, Shanti Bhushan is no more!

He was born in Bijnor and completed his education from Ewing Christian College, Allahabad. His bungalow still stands tall in Civil where he spent a considerable part of his life.

Shanti Bhushan was Raj Narain’s advocate against the then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi who was represented by Nanabhoy Palkhiwala at Allahabad High Court in The State of Uttar Pradesh vs Raj Narain lawsuit of 1975. It was in this historic case that Indira Gandhi lost after Justice Jagmohan Lal Sinha gave his verdict against her. She was found guilty of electoral malpractices.

He served as the Minister of Law between 1977-79 in Morarji Desai’s cabinet. Shanti Bhushan was one of the founding figures of Aam Aadmi Party. His son, Prashant Bhushan is also active in the same party.

He passed away in New Delhi after a brief illness at the age of 97 after living a long, successful and illustrious life.

It was in September 2019, that we visited the All Saints Cathedral and started alerting people about the bad condition of this historic church.

Three years have passed and the situation is getting worse.

The concerned authorities must work proactively to save this heritage otherwise it will be too late.
