A three-day Farmers’ Training Programme on bamboo farming and production is underway at Nagaon, with the objective of enhancing farmers’ technical skills, promoting sustainable bamboo cultivation practices, and creating improved livelihood opportunities for farming communities in Assam.

"Assam Bamboo Conclave- Sustainable Products for a Greener India" was organized by Assam State Bamboo Mission in association with PHD Chamber of Commerce on 10th of February, Saturday in Maniram Dewan Trade Centre, Guwahati as a part of the 3rd Edition of Momentum North East event.
Shri Prabhat Chandra Taro, Hon'ble Executive Member, Soil Conservation and Industries & Commerce, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, attended the conclave as the Chief Guest. Mr. Sazzad Alam, ACS, Mission Director, Assam State Bamboo Mission delivered the Welcome Address. Mr. Siddharth Singh, Deputy Secretary, PHDCCI spoke about how PHDCCI can help in developing the bamboo industry in North East India.
The theme of the 1st Technical Session was- "Technological Interventions required & emerging areas of Bamboo Value Chain in Assam". The notable speakers of the session were Mr. Amitava Sil, Officer In-Charge, Institute of Wood Science and Technology, Kolkata; Mr. Pulak Mandal, Deputy Manager, North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council and Mr. Prithviraj Neog, Manager, North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (NEDFi). Entrepreneur Ravijyoti Deka spoke about his venture Akvotransiro which manufactures boats and vessels from Bamboo Composites.
The theme of the 2nd Technical Session was "Opportunities and Challenges for Sustainable Development of Bamboo - The Green Gold in Assam". The dignitaries of the session included Dr. Rupjyoti Borah, Senior Extension Specialist, Directorate of Extension Education, Assam Agriculture University, Jorhat; Mrs. Ellora Dutta Borah, Chief Technical Officer, Rain Forest Research Institute, Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education, Jorhat and Dr. Arup Jyoti Kalita, Consultant, World Agroforestry Centre.
The Concluding Remarks and Vote of Thanks was delivered by Mrs. Madhusmita Khound, Deputy Mission Director, Assam State Bamboo Mission.
