डीज़ल शेड परिचय
लखनऊ इस शेड की नींव स्टीम लोको शेड के रूप में रखी गयी और इसके कार्य करने की शुरूआत 6 डब्ल्यूडीएस6आर घरेलू लोको के साथ सन् 1988 में हुई । समय बीता, यह शेड 158 मेन लाइन लोको तथा 08 डब्ल्यूडीएम2एस शन्टिंग लोको के नियन्त्रण के साथ भारतीय रेल का एक अभिन्न एव मह्त्वपूर्ण अंग बनने में परिपक्व हो गया है । यह शेड, अब महत्वपूर्ण मेल/एक्सप्रेस गाड़ियों को चलाता और इसके पास 73 मेल लिंक है ।
पर
म्परागत रूप से लखनऊ शेड के पास केवल डब्ल्यूडीएम2 लोको ही थे । सन् 1993 के बाद नए डब्ल्यूडीएम2 लोको को बेडे़ में प्रविष्ट नही किया गया था । पूरी तरह से भिन्न वर्ग का प्रथम उच्च अश्वशक्ति 3100 एचपी माइक्रो-प्रोसेसर नियन्त्रित लोको 15 अगस्त 2006 में बेड़े में प्रविष्ट हुआ । नम्र शुरूआत के साथ इस शेड ने चुनौती को स्वीकारा और आज 158 माइक्रो-प्रोसेसर लोको की होल्डिंग को स्पर्श किया है ।
डीज़ल शेड ने प्रथम उच्च अश्वशक्ति डब्ल्यूडीजी4 लोको की 16.05.2009 में प्रविष्टि ली । वर्तमान में 53
डब्ल्यूडीजी/ डब्ल्यूडी पी 4 लोको नियन्त्रण में है ।

To facilitate the Unreserved travellers to also plan their journey ahead, Northern Railway introduced the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) whereby the unreserved rail passenger can purchase an unreserved ticket 3 days in advance from the current booking counters. The first diesel and electric locomotive simulators in India at the Tughlaqabad and Kanpur locomotive sheds were introduced by Northern Railways. All workshops, Diesel sheds and Air brake freight depts. are ISO 9000 certified. Diesel shed, Tughlaqabad has the distinction of being the first diesel shed to get ISO 14000 certification on Indian Railway. There are eight workshops operated by Northern Railways
