للكشف المبكر عن سرطان الثدي الذي يعتبر أكثر أنواع السرطان انتشارًا بين السيدات، من المهم جدًا إجراء فحص دوري مستمر. يجب على السيدات اللواتي لا توجد لديهن مخاطر الإصابة بسرطان الثدي، اعتبارًا من المراحل العمرية فوق 40 عامًا، إجراء عملية مسح وفحص سنويًا. أمَّا في الحالات التي يوجد لديها تاريخ عائلي مع المرض، من الضروري أن يجروا متابعات مع الطبيب اعتبارًا من سن 25 عامًا.

بينما يزداد سرطان المعدة نتيجة لوجود الملح بشكل مفرط في الحمية الغذائية المتبعة, إلا أن هناك تأثير وقائي نتيجة لإستهلاك الفواكه والخضروات الطازجة. ونفس الأمر يحدث عندما يزداد سرطان المعدة نتيجة استهلاك الكربوهيدات بنسبة كبيرة, ولكن يمنعه ويعيقه الشاي الأخضر. أما الشاي الأسود, فليس لديه هذا التأثير الوقائي ضد سرطان المعدة بسبب أكسدة مادة مادة البوليفينول الواقية المتواجدة في الشاي الأخضر. كما أن الأبحاث تشير إلى أن العلاقة بين السغائر وسرطان المعدة لديها تأثير سلبي للغاية حتى وإن كان غير واضح بالشكل المعروف في سرطان الرئة. وتزداد نسبة التعرض لمرض سرطان المعدة عند الأشخاص العاملين في المناطق الصناعية وعمال الطلاء والفحم والبترول, وذلك نتيجة لتعرضهم للمواد المسببة للسرطان بشكل مستمر. وأيضاً يمكن أن يؤدي الإشعاعات إلى حدوث سرطان المعدة.
