In June, we celebrate Pride Month in the UK, Italy and around the world, a time to come together, recognise the importance of safeguarding the rights of LGBTQIA+ people, and reflect on the work that still lies ahead to ensure everyone can live openly, free from violence and discrimination.

Yesterday, our new Ambassador Stephen Hickey officially presented his credentials to President Sergio Mattarella at the Quirinale Palace.

🌳 Planting roots for the future 🌳 Inspired by the English Oak planted by His Majesty King Charles III at Villa Wolkonsky – a gift from President Mattarella from the Castelporziano Estate during the 2025 State Visit – students and teachers across Italy came together for the Tree Nature Project.

In collaboration with the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance, the European Forest Institute, the British Embassy in Rome and Pearson, schools explored the vital role of trees throughout the year 🌱

Through hands-on learning in English, and under the guidance of Chief Scientist Giuseppe Scarascia and his team, students discovered how trees support our environment across the seasons, right in their own school communities.

Today Stephen takes up post as the UK’s new Ambassador-designate to Italy and San Marino. We are delighted to welcome him to UKinItaly and look forward to sharing his first steps, meetings and experiences across Italy in the weeks ahead.

To mark the upcoming World Cup⚽ the British Embassy in Rome took part in a schools football tournament organised by the Canadian, US and Mexican embassies, in collaboration with Centro Sportivo Italiano Roma.

We fielded England and Scotland teams, represented by a local school and a local sports organisation: Istituto Palombini (Scotland) and CSI Roma Est (England).

Students and teachers were welcomed to Villa Wolkonsky for a visit and a presentation on the UK, exploring football, culture and shared values.

On the pitch, the students showed great enthusiasm and teamwork, taking part in a friendly but competitive experience that highlighted the importance of fair play and international exchange.

The tournament brought together young players from across Rome, celebrating teamwork, friendship and the spirit of international collaboration 🇬🇧🇮🇹
