The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) is closely monitoring the anticipated development of El Niño conditions in 2026, with forecasts indicating a high likelihood of occurrence and persistence through the end of the year.

🌦️ While impacts vary by season, El Niño is often associated with enhanced rainfall during the October–December season across Kenya.

🍃Strong southerly to southeasterly winds of above 25 knots (12.5m/s) expected over parts of North Western, North-Eastern, South-Eastern Lowlands and Coastal counties.

Weather Forecast for 9th to 15th June 2026

🌤️Most parts of the country are expected to be generally dry.
🌦️However, some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley and the Coast may receive rainfall.

☁️Intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are expected in some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Southeastern Lowlands, the Rift Valley & Northeastern Kenya.

🌡️Daytime (maximum) average temperatures of more than 30°C are expected in some parts of the Coast, the Southeastern Lowlands, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya

🌡️Night-time (minimum) average temperatures are expected to be less than 10°C in a few areas in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley and in the vicinity of Mt. Kilimanjaro

🌧️Rainfall is likely to continue over the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Coastal region, and parts of North-eastern Kenya.

☁️Cool and cloudy conditions are expected in parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley and the South-eastern Lowlands, with occasional light rainfall.

🌡️Daytime temperatures above 30°C are expected in the Coast and northern Kenya, while night-time temperatures below 10°C are likely in parts of the East of the Rift Valley and Central Rift Valley.
