The road to the World Cup starts with community. ⚽️

Across Kenya, football brings people together: on the pitch, around the TV, and in conversations that turn strangers into friends. Peace Corps Volunteers are grateful to share in this passion alongside their host families and communities, celebrating the connections that make the beautiful game truly global.

In the spirit of the World Cup starting soon, we are highlighting PCV Kai’s effort to equip his students with donated cleats. ⚽️🏃‍♀️

Through the generosity of communities back home in the US, Kai and his family were able to collect over 20 pairs of gently used cleats. This allowed his school to advance much farther in the tournament and leveled the playing field as many students in previous years had played barefoot or in slippers. 🥅🏃‍♂️

Thank you for your service Christie! ❤️❤️

This old photo from my Peace Corps service in Kenya, shows a much younger version of me - dust-covered, determined, and blissfully unaware of how profoundly the experience would shape the rest of my life. Whenever I see that photo, I am reminded not only of the place, but of where my journey with the Peace Corps and in the field of international development began. During my pre-service training, a quote was shared with us. It took me time to understand the meaning - start with what people know, build with what they have, and celebrate when communities proudly say, 'We did this ourselves.' Those words shaped my Peace Corps service and continue to guide my career."

🕊️ As we mark Peace Corps Week and 65 years of impact, we’re highlighting how service shapes careers long after Volunteers return home from the toughest job they'll ever love.

Happy Madaraka Day! 🇰🇪

“Madaraka” is a Kiswahili word meaning authority or power. Today, we honor Kenya’s journey to self-governance and celebrate the resilience, leadership, and community spirit that continue to shape the nation’s future.
