ACA Position Statement Following Public Discussion on Alleged Shiquo Hii Style Counterfeit Goods Raid

The Anti-Counterfeit Authority - Kenya (ACA) has noted the recent public discussions surrounding an alleged counterfeit goods enforcement operation involving Shiquo Hii Style and welcomes the opportunity to educate the public on intellectual property rights protection.

Counterfeit goods are products that unlawfully use another person's trademark, brand, logo, or other protected intellectual property without authorization. While discussions around affordability are understandable, intellectual property rights exist to protect innovation, creativity, investment, and fair competition.

ACA emphasizes that seizure of suspected counterfeit goods does not amount to a finding of guilt. All enforcement actions are undertaken within the framework of the law and affected parties are accorded due process.

The Authority also encourages entrepreneurs and emerging brands to protect their innovations through trademark registration and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Recordation. Today's trader can become tomorrow's brand owner, and ACA remains committed to supporting businesses that choose to innovate and build legitimate brands.

Together, we can create a marketplace where genuine businesses thrive, consumers purchase with confidence, and intellectual property rights are respected. .

The Executive Director Robi King'a PhD, this afternoon had a courtesy meeting with Kenya Wine Agencies Limited officials George Abasy-Nengo (Head of Policy & Regulatory) and Julius Litali (Head of Security)

The engagement reflects a shared commitment: protecting consumers from dangerous counterfeit products and defending legitimate businesses from the erosion that counterfeiting causes. Both institutions discussed possible avenues of collaboration.

Counterfeit and illicit alcohol remains one of the most damaging fronts in the fight against counterfeiting costing legitimate manufacturers revenue, denying the country tax income, and endangering consumers.

In celebration of World Environment Day, the Anti-Counterfeit Authority - Kenya brought together more than 5,000 students at Butere Boys and Butere Girls schools to plant 1,530 native and fruit‑bearing trees, donate water tanks totalling 6,500 litres and learn about consumer protection.

The programme aligns with the 2026 World Environment Day theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future,” which urges us all to take urgent climate action and embrace sustainable living. ACA’s team also taught students how to spot counterfeit goods: inspect packaging for typos or blurry photos; be wary of deals that seem too good to be true; watch out for spelling mistakes; and trust your instincts, if the workmanship or feel seems off, don’t buy it. By blending environmental stewardship with consumer awareness, ACA showed how authenticity and climate action go hand in hand.
