Joining the International Day of the African Child launch in Nakuru, the Rift Valley Regional Director for Probation, Dr. Florence Mueni, delivered the Acting Secretary's speech.
In the speech, the Acting Secretary said that probation plays a role in safeguarding the welfare of children, particularly those who
may have come into conflict with the law.
He observed that "children sometimes make mistakes, but mistakes should not define a child's future. We help children learn from their mistakes and make positive choices for a better tomorrow."
He also affirmed that the Probation, "works closely with parents, guardians, teachers, community members, and other stakeholders because raising a child is a shared responsibility."
"We advocate for alternatives to detention and for opportunities that allow children to remain connected to their families, education, and communities while receiving the support they need to reform and flourish," the Ag. Secretary, PACS.
The activity also brought together various schools, stakeholders from the Judiciary, State Department for Children Services Kenya, the NGAO, County government, NGOs, alongside other actors

DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD LAUNCH
Today Probation KE joined children, stakeholders and partners in marking the national launch of the Day of the African Child 2026 at SKM Primary School in Marsabit County; themed ensuring universal access to water, sanitation and hygiene for every child in Africa.
Mr. Robert Biketi the Marsabit County Probation Director underscored the importance of creating clean safe environments for children as an enabler for corrective behavior and social crime prevention.
Together with support from UNODC Eastern Africa, European Union in Kenya in the II project, as a social crime prevention measure brought together teachers and children from St. Teresas Girls Primary and Junior Secondary School who participated in the procession and presented traditional Gabra songs and dance highlighting the need for children to be of good behaviour.

Today, joined the PS Dr Salome Beacco, CBS, in marking World Environment Day at Lumumba Farm in Elodret, Uasin Gishu County.
In her remarks, the PS reiterated the State Department for Correctional Services commitment to ensuring the greening Kenya initiative is implemented.
The Acting Secretary Probation KE Mr Shadrack Kavutai, together with the Rift Valley Regional Director, Dr Florence Mueni, Probation Officers from Uasin Gishu Probation County Office, Kimumu Probation Hostel, Eldoret Probation Station, Turbo Probation Station, Moiben Probation Station, and Iten Probation Station in planting 2,500 fruit trees at the farm.
Also participating in the tree planting drive was .ke, and children from Eldoret GK Primary and Secondary School.
