The theme for World Environment Day 2026 is "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future." The day is celebrated on 5th June each year worldwide. At Oloolua forest, we marked the day by planting 2000 tree seedlings alongside Kwambox, PS Kimotho, Green Borderless Movement , Elizabeth Wathuti - Liz Mazingira , Christopher Alvin Mokaya El-Presidente among other environmental champions.

“Acting locally for global impact” is the theme of the 2026 edition of the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB).

As the global community is called to re-examine our relationship to the natural world, one thing is certain: despite all our technological advances we are completely dependent on healthy and vibrant ecosystems for our water, food, medicines, clothes, fuel, shelter and energy, just to name a few.

This involves respecting, protecting, and repairing our biological wealth.

This International Day for Biological Diversity, under the theme “Acting locally for global impact”, a powerful idea is placed at the center: major changes begin on a small, local scale. The success of this plan to reverse biodiversity loss depends on the strength of local actions—on the commitment of communities, organizations, and governments working together.

This campaign also aims to instill a sense of urgency. By 2026, only four years will remain to meet both the near-term targets of the Global Biodiversity Framework and the SDGs.

Two-thirds of California's power comes from clean energy.

For 9 in 10 days so far this year, we were 100% powered for some part of the day by clean energy.

The Golden State has become the world's fourth-largest economy because of our climate leadership, not in spite of it.

Yesterday at Kimakia Forest our Green Generation Initiative (GGI) team joined the Kenya National Government and other key stakeholders for the official launch of the Kimakia Forest Restoration Initiative.

Kimakia Forest is one of the key water catchments that we are restoring through the Upper Tana & Mid-Galana Water Stewardship and Watershed Restoration Project in collaboration with The Nature Conservancy (TNC).

The Green Generation Initiative (GGI) is keen to continue collaboration with other stakeholders to restore and protect our water sources, while strengthening community-driven conservation.

Collectively, we are safeguarding the health of our catchments and securing a greener, more resilient future for generations to come.

Over 5 years of endless excuses while Nairobians are losing their green spaces. Why is this so hard? Hatuelewi.

Our city cannot breathe — reopen Central Park now! 🌳
