El perro sin pelo del Perú

El perro sin pelo peruano o viringo es una raza canina originaria y milenaria, cuyo origen se pierde en los confines de la antigüedad. Su falta de pelaje se debe a una mutación genética natural (hipoplasia ectodérmica), lo que hace que su temperatura corporal sea ligeramente más alta que la de otros perros, lo que compensa su falta de abrigo.

Su forma es muy proporcionada, lo que le da una imagen esbelta, elegante y dinámica. Su piel varía en tonos de color negro, gris y marrón, y es completamente lisa. Es un animal muy inteligente, leal, afectuoso y celos de su familia.

Esta especie canina es considerada Patrimonio Cultural del Perú. Suele encontrarse representada en obras de culturas prehispánicas como los Mochica, Chancay y Chimú. Asimismo, en la cerámica etnográfica contemporánea norteña, como la de Piura, en Chulucanas.

En el año 2001, el Estado peruano promulgó una ley que protege la especie, disponiendo que los museos y zonas arqueológicas de la costa peruana mantengan ejemplares en sus recintos como parte de su valor histórico y cultural.

Amador Ballumbrosio: el maestro que convirtió su vida en un homenaje a la cultura afroperuana

Amador Ballumbrosio fue violinista, cajonero, zapateador y uno de los más importantes difusores de la cultura afroperuana del siglo XX.

Nació en El Carmen, Chincha, una localidad reconocida como uno de los principales centros de la tradición afroperuana. Desde muy joven aprendió las expresiones musicales y dancísticas heredadas por generaciones y asumió la tarea de transmitirlas a sus hijos, nietos y a toda su comunidad.

Junto a la familia Ballumbrosio, contribuyó a mantener vigentes manifestaciones como el festejo, el landó, el zapateo afroperuano y otras expresiones que forman parte del patrimonio cultural del Perú. Su hogar se convirtió en un espacio donde la música, la danza y la memoria colectiva seguían vivas cada día.

En 2004 recibió el Premio Nacional de Cultura, uno de los mayores reconocimientos otorgados a los cultores de las tradiciones peruanas, en mérito a su extraordinaria labor de preservación y difusión cultural.

Más que un artista, Amador Ballumbrosio fue un puente entre generaciones. Gracias a su trabajo, una parte fundamental de la herencia afroperuana continúa viva y sigue enriqueciendo la identidad cultural del Perú.

⛰️in Originating from the southern Andean region of Puno, these colourful ceramic bulls are traditionally placed on rooftops as symbols of protection, prosperity, happiness, and fertility. Over time, they have become an enduring symbol of Peruvian cultural identity and craftsmanship.

Today, the Torito de Pucará continues to showcase the creativity, history, and living traditions of Peru’s Andean communities.

| 🎓🇵🇪🇰🇪 On 9 June 2026, Second Secretary Johan Ríos Rivas visited Riara University to deliver a guest lecture to students from the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy as part of the ongoing commemoration of 50 years of diplomatic relations between Peru and Kenya.

📕 Titled “50 Years of Peru and Kenya: From Non-Alignment to a Strategic Partnership with Environment as a Cornerstone”, the lecture explored the evolution of bilateral relations between the two countries, highlighting decades of cooperation, shared multilateral engagement, and growing collaboration in areas such as environmental diplomacy and sustainable development.

💭 The discussion also encouraged students to reflect on the future of Peru–Kenya relations and the opportunities that lie ahead for deeper cooperation between both nations.

🇵🇪🤝🏫 As Peru and Kenya celebrate this important milestone, the Embassy remains committed to fostering dialogue with academic institutions and engaging young people in conversations on diplomacy, global challenges and international cooperation.

| 📸🇵🇪 On 8 June 2026, the Embassy of Peru in Kenya, in collaboration with Riara University, inaugurated the Shipibo-Konibo: Portraits of My Blood photographic exhibition by Peruvian photographer David Díaz Gonzáles.

🇰🇪 The exhibition brought together students and faculty members, creating a space for cultural exchange and dialogue through photography.

🎙️In her remarks, Ambassador Romy Tincopa underscored the importance of engaging young people through cultural diplomacy and expressed her confidence in the continued strengthening of ties between Peru and Kenya.

📝The event also marked the launch of a student essay and photography competition inspired by the themes of cultural exchange and the longstanding friendship between Peru and Kenya.

🇵🇪🤝🏽🇰🇪This initiative forms part of the commemoration of 50 years of diplomatic relations between Peru and Kenya and reflects the growing collaboration between both countries in the academic and cultural spheres.

| 🤎🇵🇪 On Afro-Peruvian Culture Day, the Embassy of Peru in Kenya inaugurated the photographic exhibition “Adelina y Amador”, a documentary photography exhibition by Jeannine Ferrand that pays tribute to the legacy of Amador Ballumbrosio, his wife Adelina, and their family, captured 46 years ago in the town of El Carmen, Chincha, one of the most emblematic centers of Afro-Peruvian culture.

🖼️Through intimate and powerful images, the exhibition preserves the memory of a family whose artistic and cultural contributions helped shape Peru’s rich Afro-descendant heritage and keep alive traditions that continue to inspire new generations.

🇰🇪 The opening brought together members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of international organizations, the cultural sector, and the Peruvian community in Kenya.

🥁🎶Guests also enjoyed a vibrant performance of the Afro-Peruvian dance Alcatraz and live music celebrating the richness of Peru’s cultural traditions.
