President of the Republic of Finland, Alexander Stubb, said it is an honour to host a state visit to Finland by President of Kenya William Ruto and his spouse Rachel Ruto. Last year, President Stubb, and his spouse Suzanne Innes-Stubb made a state visit to Kenya, which they still remember with great warmth.
For Finland, Kenya is an important partner. Kenya is an active and influential player both regionally and globally. We are united by a shared commitment to finding solutions to common challenges.

🌍💚 This World Environment Day, we're remembering one of the highlights of the year: our visit, with other EU country representatives to UNEP, to the beautiful Ondiri Wetland in Kikuyu 🇰🇪
💧 As the source of the Nairobi River and one of Kenya's few remaining peat bog wetlands, Ondiri plays a critical role in supporting biodiversity, storing carbon, and protecting water resources.
🦜🌱 What stood out most was seeing how grassroots conservation efforts and local community leadership through are helping to safeguard this remarkable ecosystem. Ondiri provides a vital habitat for a wide range of plant and animal species, highlighting the importance of protecting and restoring natural ecosystems. At the same time, preserving green spaces like these brings wider benefits, including helping to cool surrounding urban areas. 🌍🌳🏙️
🙏 A special thank you to Friends of Ondiri Wetland Kenya for sharing their knowledge and passion with us. Their dedication is a powerful example of how community-led action can help protect and restore nature for future generations.

In Finland, our connection to nature shapes how we act, also beyond our borders 🗺️
Here in Nairobi 🇰🇪, home to the headquarters of the United Nations Environment Programme 🇺🇳 and a global hub for environmental cooperation, we see every day how international partnerships can drive change. Through the Embassy’s engagement with the UNEP and other partners, Finland supports efforts to protect ecosystems, safeguard biodiversity, and advance sustainable solutions. 🌳🦋🐬🌺♻️

Last week, we launched the Food Systems Analysis Report 📗🎉! This report was finalised based on feedback from the joint validation workshop we held earlier this year. This is a key milestone for the Green Finance for Youth Employment project, funded by Finland and implemented together with , FSD Kenya, , and the National Treasury of Kenya. 💚🇰🇪🇫🇮
The report offers valuable evidence on business and employment opportunities for young people across Kenya’s food systems. The message is clear: the opportunity is there. 👩🏾🌾🧑🏾🌾🚀🌟
But potential alone is not enough. To turn that potential into reality, we need better access to finance, stronger skills and practical training, and a genuine commitment to inclusion — ensuring that women, persons with disabilities and other underserved groups can fully participate in the green economy 📊🌾👩🏾🌾👨🏾🦽➡️. It’s a tall order — but with committed partners by our side, we are taller. 🫱🏽🫲🏾
When young people succeed, we all do! Finland is proud to work with IFAD and partners to support young Kenyans in building viable, climate-smart businesses. 🌱📈✨

Yesterday, the Embassy staff had a wonderful recreation day to boost team spirit and take a breather from the high-tempo embassy life 🌱☀️
Our dedicated team 🇫🇮🇰🇪 got to learn about Kenyan tea farming, the delicate processes in which different tea types 🫖 are made, and explore a herb garden with all five senses! 🪴 Finally, we enjoyed a tea tasting and a lunch in the beautiful surroundings of Tigoni.
It was great to spend some time out in the fresh air and switch our laptops 💻 for tea leaf picking 🌿. Asante sana kwa siku nzuri!
