KENYA CANNOT BORROW ITS WAY TO PROSPERITY

The 2026/27 Budget Estimates expose a worrying reality. With projected revenue of Kshs 3.67 trillion against expenditure of Kshs 4.82 trillion, Kenyans are being asked to shoulder a deficit of Kshs 1.144 trillion.

This means the government plans to borrow approximately Kshs 3.13 billion every day, about Kshs 125 million every hour.

As the DCP Youth League, we believe that a nation cannot build sustainable prosperity through endless borrowing. Kenya needs a budget that prioritizes production over taxation, jobs over debt, entrepreneurship over bureaucracy, and accountability over wasteful expenditure.

Young people are not asking for more loans. We are asking for opportunities, industries, innovation, and an economy that rewards hard work.

The future generation should not inherit a mountain of debt because of poor fiscal choices made today.

It is time to build a productive economy, restore fiscal discipline, and put the interests of ordinary Kenyans first.

Nyandarua County has lost a courageous young leader and patriot. Coaches David Ragui was among the brave young Kenyans who faced arrest while exercising their constitutional right to speak out during the Finance Bill protests.

Today, we mourn the loss of a fearless grassroots leader whose voice inspired many. His courage and commitment to a better Kenya will not be forgotten.

My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Labour built this nation yet too many workers are left behind. We must fight for fair pay, dignity, and a system that works for the many, not the few.

Today, alongside the Nordic Institute Africa & Badili Africa, we held a critical conversation on exclusionary politics and the violence meted on women in political spaces. The discussion reaffirmed a hard truth: women in leadership continue to face systemic barriers ranging from intimidation and character assassination to outright physical and institutional violence designed to push them out of decision-making spaces.

At DCP PARTY, we are intentionally confronting this reality. Our focus is not just on participation, but on transforming party structures to be genuinely gender responsive. This means strengthening internal policies, ensuring women are represented across all party organs, and creating safer, more inclusive spaces for women to lead, organize, and influence political processes without fear.

It was a powerful engagement alongside Faith Thiong’o, Head of Programs & Partnerships and Director of the Women’s League, whose leadership continues to anchor these efforts.

The work ahead is demanding, but necessary. A democratic society cannot thrive while half its population is excluded or subjected to violence. Gender-responsive politics is not a favor it is a foundation for justice, equity, and sustainable leadership.

Tomorrow morning, I join the Day Break panel on Violence in Politics on Citizen TV.

For us in the DCP Party, this is not theory—it is lived reality. Our rallies have repeatedly been disrupted, our supporters intimidated, and our right to organize challenged.

Political competition must never translate into violence. Democracy demands tolerance, not suppression.

If we normalize this trend, we risk silencing not just parties, but the voices of citizens they represent—especially young people stepping into leadership.

Congratulations County Youth Chair Grace Njengo and your entire committee for a successful launch. Your leadership is admirable and inspiring.

Your work is a powerful testament that young women in leadership are not only capable but transformative. DCP PARTY continues to lead by example in nurturing, empowering, and elevating young women to take up space, lead boldly, and shape the future of our politics.
