On 28 May 2026, ICPALD officially handed over a fully functional poultry unit & beehive sheds to beneficiary farmers in Akendeyu, Benishangul-Gumuz Region, Ethiopia. The event was presided over by ICPALD's Director, Dr. Dereje Wakjira.
These livelihood assets, provided under the Sustainable Ecosystem Management , will strengthen income generation, food security & community resilience.

📸Livestock sector café co-planning the June to September (JJAS) 2026 seasonal advisories, and thereafter engaging participants during the walk-about session of the meeting.
Some aspects considered in developing the JJAS livestock sector mitigating actions include the risk of drought, heat stress, disease and conflict which affect pasture availability, feed access and animal body conditions.
A coordinated response mechanism ensures access to available resources is timely to minimize the impact of seasonal climate changes.

Event: Launch of the synchronized cross-border against priority , such as (PPR), along the Ethiopia–Kenya border.
The vaccination launch on the Kenyan side took place in Sololo, Marsabit County. This exercise targets a total of 2 million livestock in Moyale & North Horr Sub-Counties.

Event: Launch of the synchronized cross-border against priority , such as (PPR), along the Ethiopia–Kenya border.
The launch took place today in Ilamu and Boku Luboma Kebeles, Miyo District, Borana zone in Ethiopia, targeting 300,000 livestock.
This kicks off the extended exercise which projects to vaccinate a total of 5 million livestock (camels, cattle, goats, sheep) by the end of June 2026, in various districts bordering Kenya. These districts are Miyo, Moyale, Dhire, Dillo and Teltele.

has convened a meeting to establish a functional sub-national coordination committee and build their capacity to strengthen governance and coordination of pastoralism and transhumance in border areas of Afar region-Ethiopia (Dikhil Cluster).
The forum brings together the Afar Region community and government stakeholders to strengthen cross-border coordination, peaceful pastoral mobility & regional collaboration.
The meeting will:
1⃣Identify existing sub-national government agencies, partner institutions & community leadership structures responsible for pastoral development.
2⃣Establish & formalize gender inclusive sub-national coordination committees.
3⃣Sensitize committee members on components of cross-border governance & the IGAD Transhumance Protocol.
4⃣Deliberate on cross-border transhumance challenges, solutions and tracking system, in line with the Protocol.

Ethiopia & Kenya, are jointly operationalizing their bilateral cross-border cooperation agreement on animal health & sanitary measures in the IGAD Cluster 2.
The cross-border event focuses on harmonized surveillance, synchronized vaccination, outbreak response, livestock mobility, SPS compliance & safer cross-border livestock trade.
A key milestone of this event will be the launch of synchronized cross-border vaccination on both the Ethiopia & Kenya bordering districts in the next two days. The exercise is expected to continue for two months, demonstrating the two countries’ shared commitment on coordinated transboundary animal disease (TADs) prevention & control.
This initiative contributes to improved animal health, stronger bilateral cooperation, enhanced livestock trade facilitation, and regional progress towards the control & eradication of priority TADs, including PPR.

Building on earlier community engagements which focused on co-learning, dialogue and co-production of risk knowledge, ICPALD under the PASSAGE Project has convened a community engagement, in Moyale cluster, to deepen the evidence base supporting locally led anticipatory action.

ICPALD has convened a regional workshop to review progress in implementing Regional Livestock Program (RLP) supported livestock policies and strategies at national and sub-national levels.
The meeting intends to strengthen stakeholder coordination and harmonization of key policies, enhance implementation, track progress and identifying priority actions for improved livestock trade, and management across the region.
This forum brings together IGAD Member States and RLP implementing partners to assess achievements, address gaps, and strengthen coordinated action amongst the RLP implementing member states and across livestock trade corridors.
