Sri Lanka is exceptionally rich in flora and fauna with amphibians, reptiles and mammals including sea turtles, porcupines, sambar, crocodiles, lemurs, monkeys, apes and more. On my tours, you’ll see wild elephant, buffalo, maybe the elusive sloth bear or even the secretive Sri Lankan leopard. I know the best places to find these creatures in their natural habitat, and the time of day or night when they are most likely to be visible. If markets are your thing I will take you to towns where the local produce is abundant and I’ll be happy to advise you on your purchases. You might like to try some of our many wild fruits, or to know something about our indigenous herbs and their medical uses, or the benefits of Ayurveda. I can show you the delicacies we use to control diabetes, combat dehydration or fatigue and, in case you haven’t plucked up the courage to ask, teach you how to open and drink from the young coconut and scrape out its delicious cream!
