Some wounds of war are not always visible. 🕊️

On International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, we honour the courage and resilience of victims around the world. Sexual violence in conflict is not only an attack on individuals, it is an attack on human dignity, human rights and entire communities.

Today, we remember those whose lives have been profoundly affected by these crimes and reaffirm the importance of justice, accountability and support for victims. Their voices matter. Their stories matter.

Building a more peaceful world means ensuring that such violence is never ignored, never accepted and never forgotten.

Recent research from the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights highlights that the experiences of many women remain underreported in Russia’s war against Ukraine. Understanding these realities is essential to improving protection, support services and access to justice for victims.

Together, let us stand for dignity, respect and the protection of human rights for all.

Words can build bridges, but they can also create barriers.

On the International Day for Countering Hate Speech, we reflect on the importance of fostering respect, understanding and empathy in our communities.

Hate speech does not only affect individuals; it can weaken social cohesion, fuel discrimination and silence voices that deserve to be heard. Education has a vital role to play in addressing these challenges. By helping young people develop critical thinking, digital literacy and empathy, schools can empower them to recognise hate speech, challenge prejudice and stand up for one another.

Creating safer and more inclusive environments starts with everyday actions: listening, learning and, the most important, choosing respect over division.

🌈Every June, Pride celebrations across Europe shine a light on LGBTQI+ communities, celebrating diversity, raising visibility, and calling for equal rights.

In 2026, Pride also aligns with the ongoing implementation of the European Commission’s LGBTQI+ Equality Strategy, reinforcing a shared commitment to ensuring that everyone in the EU can live freely and safely. While progress is evident, challenges remain.

Data helps us understand these realities. Research from the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights shows that more people feel comfortable being open about who they are, yet over half still report that they experience harassment.

Open datasets, including the FRA LGBTQI survey and Eurostat’s equality statistics, provide crucial insights into discrimination, safety, and quality of life across Europe.

By making this data accessible, platforms like the European Data Portal support transparency, informed policymaking, and inclusive action.
This Pride, go beyond awareness. Explore the data and be part of the change.
