The Australian High Commission was honoured to welcome the President H.E. Myriam Spiteri Debono and Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, the Hon Chris Fearne MP, to our Celebrate Australia reception this week, along with so many friends, colleagues, diplomatic missions, businesses and officials, joining us to connect 🇦🇺🤝🇲🇹.

This was an important occasion to highlight the strong connections and friendship between our two nations and present our perspectives on shared global challenges.

This year, our interactive map of Australia built a picture of where these people-to-people links are - guests were invited to mark where they had family, lived, or visited.

Thanks to Australian-Maltese performer, Ms Christabelle Scerri, and 🇲🇹 pianist Mr Conrad Briffa, who performed our national anthems.

One ocean, one shared future – and Australia is acting to protect it. On World Ocean Day, we highlight again Australia's climate change action in the Pacific with our Pacific partners.

Small Islands Developing States (SIDS) are often disproportionally impacted by climate change. On the frontlines of the climate crisis, SIDS are facing an existential threat due to accelerating sea level rise, severe coastal erosion, and saltwater intrusion.

Last week, we were honoured to welcome Salā Dr George Carter to speak at the launch of our photo exhibition on climate change action in the Pacific and beyond. Salā Dr George Carter, Director of the Pacific Institute at the The Australian National University, shared the lived experience for Pacific nations facing the consequences of climate change.

In collaboration with the Islands and Small States Institute at the University of Malta, this photo exhibition highlights the impact of climate change and climate change action in the Pacific and other small island states.

Thank you to University of Malta and Islands and Small States Institute - University of Malta for hosting a roundtable during the visit of Dr George Carter, Director of the Pacific Institute at the The Australian National University. It was a great opportunity to hear from an expert in the Pacific region about the first hand lived experience of climate change.

During this roundtable, academics from natural sciences to humanities, law and linguistics, discussed with Dr Carter the role that small island nations can play to steer climate actions, and explored opportunities for deeper engagement with Pacific institutes.

Australia 🇦🇺 is committed to working with Türkiye 🇹🇷 and in partnership with the Pacific, to strengthen global climate action through the 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31) Turkiyecop31. A member of the Pacific Islands Forum, Australia is working to raise Pacific voices as COP31 President of Negotiations. Pre- COP31 events hosted in Fiji 🇫🇯 and Tuvalu 🇹🇻 will bring the world to the Pacific to experience climate impacts and solutions firsthand.
