PROJECT UPDATE FOR PHASE 2 OF ONGWEDIVA LEISURE PARK

ONGWEDIVA | Construction activities for the second phase of the Ongwediva Leisure Park at Extension 11 are progressing well, with groundwork currently underway. The project marks another significant milestone in the Council’s commitment to enhancing recreational infrastructure and improving the quality of life for residents.

Phase 2 of the development includes comprehensive landscaping works, the construction of a beach volleyball court, installation of electrical infrastructure, development of a communal lounge facility, and the creation of picnic and relaxation areas. The project also encompasses essential civil services, including water and sewer connections.

Once completed, the leisure park is expected to boost local tourism, create employment opportunities, and promote social interaction and community well-being. The initiative aligns with Namibia’s broader goals of sustainable urban development and improved public amenities.

The project is valued at approximately N$3.1 million, with Up-Mark Investment CC appointed as the contractor. Construction is expected to be completed by October 2026.

IN ATTENDANCE OFFICIAL INAUGURATION OF THE UPGRADED ROSSING FOUNDATION ONDANGWA CENTRE

ONGWEDIVA | The official inauguration of the upgraded Rössing Foundation Ondangwa Centre was presided over by the President of the Republic of Namibia, Her Excellency, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.

The Centre will be transformed into the Ondangwa Digital Technology Hub and Conferencing Centre, marking a significant step towards advancing digital innovation, skills development, and knowledge sharing in the region.

Ongwediva Town’s Mayor, Cllr. Naemi Amuthenu, and Deputy Mayor, Cllr. Jeremia Amutenya, were among the dignitaries in attendance at the event.

NAMWATER NORTH-WEST BUSINESS UNIT PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO ONGWEDIVA TOWN COUNCIL

ONGWEDIVA | The Namibia Water Corporation Ltd (NAMWATER) North-West Business Unit Management paid a courtesy visit to the Ongwediva Town Council Management on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, as part of its ongoing stakeholder engagement programme.

The NAMWATER delegation, led by the Head of the North-West Business Unit, Mr. Leonard Hango, was received by the Town’s Interim Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Rebekka Hidulika, together with the Council's Management team.

The engagement focused on matters relating to water supply in Ongwediva, ongoing and planned water infrastructure developments, and opportunities to further strengthen collaboration between the two institutions to enhance service delivery to residents.

During the meeting, NAMWATER Management commended the Ongwediva Town Council for maintaining a clean financial record and remaining debt-free with NAMWATER over the years. This achievement reflects the Council’s commitment to sound financial management, accountability, and transparency in fulfilling its statutory obligations.

The meeting reaffirmed the strong working relationship between NAMWATER and the Ongwediva Town Council, as both institutions continue to work together towards sustainable water service provision and the development of the town.

UPGRADE OF COUNCIL'S SEWERAGE INFRASTRUCTURE NEARS COMPLETION

ONGWEDIVA | The Ongwediva Town Council continues to implement and monitor strategic capital projects aimed at enhancing service delivery and strengthening essential municipal infrastructure.

As part of its continuous efforts to improve the town’s sewerage system, the Council is undertaking the upgrade of the pump line connecting Pump Station No. 3 to the Oxidation Ponds in Ongwediva.

During a site inspection and progress assessment conducted by the Council’s technical team on Monday, 22 June 2026, the contractor was found working diligently to ensure the timely completion of the project. According to the contractor, the works are currently approximately 90% complete.

The Council allocated N$5 million towards the project in its 2025/2026 financial year budget, while the final project cost is estimated at approximately N$3 million.

Once completed, the upgraded infrastructure is expected to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the town’s sewerage network, thereby contributing to improved sanitation services and sustainable service delivery for the residents of Ongwediva.

📌 PUBLIC AUCTION

ONGWEDIVA | The Ongwediva Town Council, in partnership with Harambee Communal Auctioneers, will host a public auction on 17 July 2026 at Mayor’s Park, Ongwediva.

A variety of municipal assets, including office equipment, heavy-duty tyres, air conditioners, fencing materials, and other items, will be available for bidding.

Viewing of the items will take place on 16 July 2026.

The Council invites interested members of the public and businesses to participate in the transparent auction process. A refundable registration fee of N$500.00 applies.

COUNCIL CONTINUES TO ENGAGE COMMUNITY MEMBERS

ONGWEDIVA | The Ongwediva Town Council, led by its Councillors and supported by staff members, continues to strengthen its engagement with residents through its community outreach programme aimed at fostering public participation and enhancing service delivery.

On Sunday, 21 June 2026, the Council leadership convened a community meeting at Extension 11, where they engaged residents from Ongwediva Proper as well as Extensions 3, 9, and 11. During the meeting, residents were afforded an opportunity to raise concerns, share suggestions, and discuss issues relating to municipal services and community development.

During the engagement, community members were given the opportunity to voice their concerns, identify service delivery challenges, and contribute valuable input on matters affecting their daily lives. This initiative serves as an important mechanism for promoting transparency, accountability, and collaboration between the Council and the communities it serves.

The engagements form part of the Council’s broader efforts to improve service delivery, strengthen community relations, and promote sustainable development within the town.

The Counci hasl reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining open communication with residents and ensuring that their views and concerns are taken into consideration in planning and decision-making processes.
