🎓🌱 Watch the Inauguration of the 3rd Cohort of the Youth for Green Hydrogen Scholarship Programme!

A total of 90 students from NIMT Keetmanshoop, Johanna Jacobs Vocational Training Centre, and AIMS Vocational Training Centre have officially joined this exciting programme, which aims to equip Namibian youth with valuable skills and knowledge for the growing green hydrogen sector. ⚡🇳🇦

The inauguration ceremony took place at AIMS Vocational Training Centre in Stampriet, Hardap Region, and was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport and Culture, Hon. Dino Ballotti, on behalf of the Vice President of Namibia.

The event was also attended by Hardap Regional Governor Hon. Riaan Charles McNab, SASSCAL Executive Director Prof. Nelago Indongo, and many other distinguished guests and stakeholders who are supporting Namibia’s green industrial future. 🌍🤝

📢🎓 SASSCAL is excited to announce the inauguration of the 3rd Cohort of TVET Scholarship Beneficiaries for Namibian youth from the Hardap and //Kharas regions!

The scholarship programme is implemented under the Youth for Green Hydrogen Initiative, which supports the implementation of the Joint Communiqué of Intent on Energy and Green Hydrogen between Namibia and Germany. 🇳🇦🤝🇩🇪

This initiative aims to equip young people with valuable technical and vocational skills, helping them participate in Namibia’s growing green hydrogen sector and contribute to a sustainable future. ⚡

Her Excellency, Lucia Witbooi, Vice President of Namibia, will deliver the keynote address at the event.

WASCAL Delegation Visits SASSCAL Regional Secretariat to Strengthen Collaboration

Windhoek, Namibia – The Chairperson of the WASCAL Governing Board, Prof. Chinedum Uzoma Nwajiuba, and the WASCAL Executive Director, Prof. Emmanuel Ramde, are currently on an official visit to the SASSCAL Regional Secretariat in Windhoek, Namibia. The visit, which runs from 16 to 20 June 2026, aims to strengthen cooperation between the two sister institutions and explore opportunities for joint initiatives.

The delegation was welcomed by SASSCAL Executive Director, Prof. Nelago Indongo, and began its engagements with meetings involving SASSCAL management and staff. During the sessions, SASSCAL presented its key programmes and ongoing activities, highlighting its contributions to climate change research, capacity development, and sustainable land management in Southern Africa.

Discussions focused on potential areas of collaboration, particularly in Green Industrialisation, as well as the SASSCAL Graduate Studies Programme in Integrated Water Resources Management and the SGSP in Agriculture, Food Security and Sustainable Land Management. 🌱

The two institutions also exchanged ideas on how to secure additional funding for climate change initiatives and discussed ways to strengthen their presence and impact at the upcoming COP31 and other future international events.

As part of the visit, the WASCAL delegation also participated in the SASSCAL-WASCAL Webinar, which provided a platform for students to share their experiences and achievements under the graduate study programmes offered by both institutions.

The visit will continue with engagements at the Namibia University of Science and Technology - NUST and participation in the 3rd Cohort TVET Green Hydrogen Scholarship Inauguration Event in Stampriet on 19 June 2026. The event will be officiated by the Vice President of Namibia and marks another important step in building skills and capacity for the country's green hydrogen sector.

The visit reflects the strong partnership between SASSCAL and WASCAL and their shared commitment to advancing research, education, innovation, and sustainable development across Africa.

WaReNam 3rd Round Table Advances Water Reuse Dialogue in Namibia

On the 11th of June 2026, SASSCAL and ISOE – Institute for Social-Ecological Research, successfully convened the 3rd WaReNam Round Table Discussion under the theme: "Fit-for-Purpose Water Reuse – From Regulatory Requirements to Technical Recommendations, Monitoring and Compliance Practices."

The Code of Practice for water reuse guided discussions by linking policy objectives with on-the-ground realities. Insights from the event will inform the development of Namibia’s National Water Reuse Strategy, with the MAFWLR Department of Water Affairs participating as a key contributor.

Among the attendees were SASSCAL Executive Director - Prof. Nelago Indongo, the Director of Science, Technology and Innovation - Dr. Budzanani Tacheba, Mr. Matthew Hambabi and Dr. Laurica Afrikana from the Department of Water Affaires and representatives from NamWater, WINGOC, NECFU, LAC, NAU Oshakati Town Council, Global Water Challenge as well as academic institutions like NCRST, IUM and UNESCO, among others. 🌍💦

The discussions emphasized that collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing are key to unlocking the potential of water reuse and strengthening long-term water security, and building climate resilience for Namibia’s future.

The project “WaReNam – Multiscale Water Reuse Strategy for Namibia: Technology, Governance and Capacity Building” is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) under the Water Security in Africa (WASA) programme (Grant No. 02WAS1715A).
