🎓🚫 SAY NO TO BRIBERY IN EDUCATION

Every child deserves a fair chance to access education based on merit, not money, connections, or personal favours.

Paying or receiving bribes for school admission is corruption. It robs deserving learners of opportunities, undermines fairness, and weakens public trust in our education system. When corruption influences admission decisions, it sends the wrong message to our children that success can be bought instead of earned.

Education is the foundation of our nation's future. Every unfair admission secured through bribery denies another learner their rightful opportunity and contributes to a culture of dishonesty that can have lasting consequences for society.

Remember: bribery is a criminal offence. Both the person offering a bribe and the person accepting it can be held accountable under the law. What may seem like a shortcut today can lead to serious legal consequences tomorrow.

Let us protect the integrity of our schools by promoting transparency, accountability, and equal opportunities for all learners.

✅ Choose integrity.
✅ Follow proper procedures.
✅ Report corruption.
✅ Build a better future for every child.

📚🛡️ STRENGTHENING INTEGRITY IN THE EDUCATION SECTOR

As part of its ongoing efforts to prevent and combat corruption, officers from the Anti-Corruption Commission's Public Education and Prevention Division conducted an Integrity Training session for Human Resources officials from various Ministry of Education Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC) at Dawid Bezuidenhout High School.

The training focused on promoting ethical leadership, accountability, transparency, and professionalism within the education sector. Participants were reminded that integrity is not merely a workplace requirement but a personal commitment to doing what is right, even when no one is watching.

During the presentation, officials were encouraged to uphold ethical standards in decision-making, recruitment processes, procurement activities, and the management of public resources. The session emphasized that corruption is not a victimless crime. Every act of corruption deprives learners of opportunities, weakens educational institutions, undermines public trust, and steals from future generations.

Education is the foundation upon which nations are built. When corruption infiltrates schools, offices, and public institutions, it compromises the quality of education, limits opportunities for young people, and hinders national development. Protecting the integrity of the education system is therefore a collective responsibility.

Participants were further reminded that while the wheels of justice may sometimes turn slowly, accountability remains inevitable. Individuals who engage in corrupt practices should never assume that the passage of time erases wrongdoing. Investigations may take months or years, but corruption leaves a trail, and those responsible can still be held accountable long after the offence was committed. The consequences of corruption can follow an individual throughout their career and beyond, serving as a lasting reminder that integrity should never be compromised for personal gain.

The Anti-Corruption Commission remains committed to working with stakeholders across all sectors to build a culture of honesty, accountability, and good governance. Through education, awareness, and prevention initiatives, we continue to strengthen the national fight against corruption and safeguard the future of our country.

🌍 Day of the African Child

Today, we celebrate the resilience, potential, and dreams of every African child. As we commemorate African Child Day, we are reminded that children are not only the leaders of tomorrow, they are the future we must protect today.

Corruption remains one of the greatest threats to the well-being and development of children across Africa. Every dollar stolen through corruption is a classroom left unbuilt, a hospital left unequipped, a scholarship denied, or a child's dream deferred. When corruption thrives, it is often the youngest and most vulnerable members of society who suffer the most.

The fight against corruption is therefore a fight for the future of our children. By promoting integrity, accountability, transparency, and ethical leadership, we create an environment where every child can access quality education, healthcare, protection, and equal opportunities to succeed.

On this African Child Day, let us all commit to being role models of honesty and integrity. Let us teach our children the value of doing what is right, even when no one is watching. Together, we can build a society where corruption has no place and where every child can grow up with hope, dignity, and the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Protect the future. Uphold integrity. Reject corruption.

Mr. Shilongo further outlined the Commission’s commitment to strengthening stakeholder engagement, improving organizational performance, and ensuring an effective regulatory framework to support anti-corruption efforts. 📚 PROMOTING ETHICAL LEADERSHIP IN SCHOOLS

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) continues to strengthen its efforts in promoting integrity, accountability, and ethical leadership across Namibia.

Today, ACC Public Education and Corruption Prevention Officers, Mr. Alexander Ngola and Mr. Tomas Ntinda, addressed school principals from across the Khomas Region during a principals' meeting held at Havana High School in the Havana Settlement.

The engagement formed part of the Commission's mandate to educate and empower leaders on ethical conduct, good governance, and corruption prevention. School principals play a critical role in shaping the values and character of future generations, making them key partners in the fight against corruption.

During the session, the officers highlighted the importance of fostering a culture of integrity within educational institutions and emphasized that corruption can undermine the quality of education, erode public trust, and negatively impact learners' opportunities. Participants were encouraged to lead by example and to promote transparency, fairness, and accountability in all school operations.

The ACC further encouraged schools to invite the Commission to conduct Corruption Risk Assessments, Integrity Awareness Sessions, and Educational Outreach Programmes aimed at equipping both educators and learners with the knowledge and tools needed to identify, prevent, and report corrupt practices.
