WDC – OICs Engagement with Ogun State Primary Health Care Development Board (PHCDB)

The fifth day and grand finale of the Ward Development Committee (WDC) and Officers-in-Charge (OICs) Engagement with the Ogun State Primary Health Care Development Board was successfully held with the active participation of WDC leaders and OICs from Ipokia, Yewa South, Ijebu North East, and Imeko-Afon Local Government Areas.
The final day of the engagement was both impactful and inspiring, providing another valuable opportunity for stakeholders to strengthen collaboration, exchange experiences, and reinforce their shared commitment towards improving primary health care service delivery across Ogun State. Participants expressed overwhelming satisfaction with the engagement, describing it as enlightening, practical, and transformational. The feedback received from both WDC representatives and OICs reflected the positive impact of the programme and the renewed sense of purpose it has created among grassroots health stakeholders.
Throughout the five-day engagement, critical issues affecting the effective management of primary health care facilities were extensively discussed, while practical solutions and strategies for improved collaboration between WDCs and OICs were highlighted. The programme further strengthened the partnership between community representatives and health facility managers, thereby promoting ownership, accountability, transparency, and sustainability within the primary health care system.
To mark the successful conclusion of the engagement and in recognition of exceptional leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the advancement of primary health care across the 236 wards of Ogun State, the State Leadership of the Ward Development Committee, Ogun State Council, conferred VIP Special Recognition Awards on three distinguished champions of primary health care development:
- Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, Executive Secretary, Ogun State Primary Health Care Development Board.
- Dr. Solarin M.T., Director of Disease Control and Immunization.
- Dr. Solape Folarin, State Coordinator, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Ogun State.
These awards were presented as a token of appreciation for their visionary leadership, steadfast support, and remarkable contributions towards strengthening primary health care systems and community participation across Ogun State. Their dedication has continued to inspire stakeholders and drive significant improvements in health outcomes at the grassroots level.
Speaking during the award presentation ceremony, the State Chairman of the Ward Development Committee (WDC), Ogun State Council, Alh. Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, JP, described the award recipients as true giants of primary health care and role models whose visionary leadership, commitment, and support have significantly contributed to the growth, development, and strengthening of the Ward Development Committee structure across the 20 Local Government Areas of Ogun State. He noted that their dedication to community participation, capacity building, and quality primary health care service delivery has inspired WDC members and stakeholders throughout the state.
The State Chairman further urged all WDC representatives and Officers-in-Charge (OICs) to put into practice the valuable lessons, knowledge, and experiences gained during the five-day engagement. He emphasized the need to utilize the knowledge acquired to strengthen Ward Development Committees, improve collaboration with health facility managers, promote community ownership of health facilities, and support the continuous development of primary health care services across Ogun State. He stressed that sustainable progress in the health sector can only be achieved through commitment, accountability, teamwork, and active community participation.
As the curtains draw on this historic engagement, the Ward Development Committee Ogun State Council expresses profound gratitude to the management of the Ogun State Primary Health Care Development Board, all participating OICs, WDC representatives, and development partners whose support contributed to the success of the programme.
The engagement has not only strengthened institutional relationships but has also renewed the collective resolve to build a more responsive, accessible, and people-centered primary health care system for all residents of Ogun State. The successful completion of the engagement marks another important milestone in the ongoing efforts to ensure quality, equitable, and sustainable primary health care delivery across the 236 wards of Ogun State.
