We are proud to announce that U.S. Department of State INL, in partnership with UNODC Nigeria, has formally handed over newly constructed, state-of-the-art interview rooms to the NDLEA.

This initiative enhances NDLEA's investigative capabilities to dismantle Mexican and Western Hemisphere cartels seeking to establish clandestine laboratories and expand crystal methamphetamine production and trafficking in Nigeria and across Africa.

By disrupting the networks that threaten our citizens, we are building a safer world together. This facility represents the enduring commitment of the United States to support Nigeria in the fight against drug trafficking, making both our countries safer.

U.S. Foreign Commercial Service hosted a U.S.-Nigeria Business Networking Reception bringing together Nigerian firms that have participated in major U.S. trade shows, members of the Network with the USA (NUSA) program, and U.S. companies from priority commercial sectors. Through the NUSA program, vetted Nigerian businesses gain access to U.S. trade and investment opportunities, making both countries more prosperous.

Charge d’Affaires Heffern met with Foreign Minister Odumegwu-Ojukwu to discuss the strong U.S.-Nigeria partnership as well as enhanced security cooperation, the importance of advancing religious freedom, and building on progress through the Joint Working Group to address Nigeria’s Country of Particular Concern designation.

All visa applicants, no matter the visa type and where they are located, are continuously vetted. Security vetting runs from the time of each application, through adjudication of the visa, and afterwards during the validity period of every issued visa, to ensure the individual remains eligible to travel to the United States.

The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Friday, May 1, 2026, in observance of Workers Day holiday.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service recently hosted a two-day workshop connecting Nigerian and U.S. banks, traders, and agribusinesses. The event introduced participants to USDA's GSM-102 Export Credit Guarantee Program and guided Nigerian agribusinesses through the process of accessing U.S. products. Consul General Rick Swart urged participating companies to leverage this opportunity to develop practical solutions and create a business environment where entrepreneurs, innovators, and investors can contribute to improving food security and creating jobs in the United States and Nigeria.
