The European Christian Political Party (ECPP) is the only explicitly Christian party in the EP.

We are a European party, a coalition of Christian-democratic parties and organisations, active at all different political levels in Europe. The ECPP is not affiliated to one of the groups in the European Parliament. In short, we stand for:
- a Europe of human dignity
- an economy that works for people and planet

Can trade routes build lasting peace? That is the question at the heart of this conversation between Márton Gyöngyösi and ECPP MEP Cristian Terhes.

From the Middle Corridor to the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process, MEP Tereș makes a compelling case that economic interconnectivity is not just good for trade but is in fact one of the most powerful tools we have for preventing war.

"If you bring prosperity, you can have a long and lasting peace."

Human dignity is for everyone, including refugees and asylum seekers. World Refugee Day reminds us of that.

Dignity must be protected, application procedures quick and humane, and if approved, integration into society needs to happen as soon as possible.

Especially, unaccompanied refugee minors must be treated as children first and foremost, prioritised in settlement and integration efforts in full accordance with children's rights legislation.

The military junta in Burkina Faso is cracking down on its society, targeting civil society and individuals and violating their fundamental human rights. The European Parliament condemned the Burkinabè junta and called to uphold freedom.

ECPP MEP Cristian Terhes pointed to the role of Russia:
🗣 "All the accusations of severe violations of human rights happening in Burkina Faso, they are true. But they are just the effects, unfortunately. Russia is offering military training, weapons and diplomatic support to this military junta."

MEP Terhes called for supporting the Burkinabè people and NGOs while also having a realistic, pragmatic approach.

The European Parliament called for the immediate release of Aliaksandra Pulinovich and all political prisoners of Belarus' dictator Lukashenko.

In the debate, ECPP MEP Cristian Terhes warned that the EU must not allow the countries it engages with to fall into the hands of malign actors like Russia, to be used against European interests in the future.
🗣 "When Russia attacked in February 2022, they used Belarus. We need to look back to make sure such things are not repeated."

History must not repeat itself.

The European Parliament condemned the dictatorial Ortega-Murillo regime in Nicaragua for its repression of its people, most notably political dissidents, and the persecution of Christians, indigenous people, and civil society.

In the debate, ECPP MEP Cristian Terhes reminded that the EU gave €77 million to Nicaragua under the pretext of 'adapting to climate change', thereby funding a violent and oppressive dictatorship.
🗣 "We need to wake up. We cannot finance a tyrannical regime and, at the same time, give nice speeches here in Strasbourg condemning the abuses that are taking place in Nicaragua."
We need to act tough.

The EU Electrification Action Plan proposes a one-size-fits-all approach that ignores the reality on the ground, says ECPP MEP Claudiu Târziu. It focuses too heavily on solar and wind energy, without mentioning alternatives like nuclear and hydroelectric power.

Its demand to have one third of energy come from electricity by 2030 is not realistic in places less advanced in this domain, such as Romanian villages.

🗣 "We definitely want electrification! But with funds allocated specifically for villages, using nuclear energy and only under the right conditions."

ECPP MEP Cristian Terhes welcomes the EP report recognising Albania's steady progress in its European path and the efforts made by the Albanian authorities to implement the necessary reforms in key areas, such as the rule of law, public administration, and the strengthening of democratic institutions. At the same time, MEP Terhes made clear that challenges remain.

MEP Terhes welcomes the Albanian Government's decision to finally implement the final ruling on the restitution of the Iorga House to Romania 🇷🇴.

Europe's transport infrastructure is no longer just an economic priority, it is a matter of national security and strategic sovereignty.
ECPP MEP Cristian Terhes made the case in the European Parliament: military mobility and dual-use transport corridors must become a strategic priority for the EU.

🗣 "The Black Sea is Europe's eastern gateway and the Danube is its strategic backbone. Strengthening both is essential for Europe's security, prosperity and future."

The Asylum and Migration Pact is now in force, and an agreement has been reached on the Return Regulation. What matters now is the proper implementation of these new rules, says ECPP MEP Bert-Jan Ruissen.

Border countries must ensure that asylum seekers are properly screened before entering the EU. Those whose asylum applications have been rejected should be returned, and return hubs outside Europe should be established.

Europe must remain a safe haven for genuine refugees. To ensure this, asylum applications must be assessed carefully and thoroughly.
