Provincial Government of Antique: 205 GIP Slots

The Provincial Government of Antique is now accepting applications for the Government Internship Program (GIP) with 205 available slots.

The program is funded through the Office of Senator Loren Legarda and coursed via the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

According to Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Manager Ms. Myra Pe, interested applicants may now submit their requirements, which include an application letter addressed to Governor Paolo Javier, Transcript of Records or Diploma, photocopy of a valid ID, and resume.

Qualified interns will be deployed to various offices of the provincial government, with the program tentatively starting this September.

The Government Internship Program (GIP) is a Philippine government initiative under the Kabataan 2000 program that provides young workers with hands-on experience in public service to enhance their skills and employability. The program targets high school, vocational-technical, and college graduates between 18-30 years old (with exceptions) to work in various government agencies for 3-6 months, receiving a non-taxable stipend.

Antique readies relief to Caluya families in oil spill tragedy

“As of the moment, the only action that we can do is mapadara kita kang 1, 000 food packs rugto.”

Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao gave directives for 1, 000 family food packs to be distributed to families affected by the oil spill from a sunken tanker in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.

To date, 373 individuals in Sitio Sabang, Barangay Tinogboc and more than 600 individuals in Sitio Liwagao, Barangay Sibolo are affected by the oil spills, most of whom are fisher folks and seaweed planters.

In an interview earlier today, Cadiao said she is worried how the oil spill will affect the multi-million tambalang (seaweed) industry - one of the town’s major sources of income.

Caluya Mayor Rigil Kent Lim has already issued an executive order suspending all fishing activities or in the areas surrounding Sitio Sabang and Sitio Tambak in Semirara Island, Nagubat Island, and Liwagao Island. The suspension includes harvesting of marine resources for consumption.

Cadiao is coordinating with Lim to transport the relief packs. Deployment of relief and additional manpower however are delayed by strong gales and rough seas along the western seaboards of Southern Luzon and Visayas.

Personnel from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) are currently on standby until it is safe for them to cross the sea to Caluya. The PDRRMO is coordinating with the Provincial Health Office (PHO) for personal protective equipment (PPE) to be used in the cleanup.

Cadiao wants the spills cleaned up as soon as possible in order to avoid it from reaching the shores of Panay.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) based in Caluya and the local government units (LGU) have already scooped up 20 drums of industrial fuel. (PIO LAVEGA)
