Ang Calamba ay isang lungsod na matatagpuan sa lalawigan ng Laguna at lugar na sinilangan ng ating bayani na si Jose Rizal.

Alam ninyo ba na ayon sa kwentong-bayan ng Calamba, ang pangalan ng bayan ay hango sa mga salitang "kalan" at "banga." Samantala, ayon sa aklat na Vocabulario de la lengua Tagala (1754) ni Padre Juan Noceda, ang "calamba" ay tumutukoy sa isang malaking banga o kaya'y sa isang kawayan o tubo na may guhit at kulay. Dagdag na rin dito ang aklat ni Padre Francisco Manuel Blanco na Flora de Filipinas (1837) na ang "calamba" ay tumutukoy sa isang uri ng madagtang punong kahoy.

Gayunpaman, nananatiling popular ang kwentong-bayan ng "kalan at banga", sa katunayan ay may ipinatayong malaking monumento ng kalan at banga noong 1937-1939 na matatagpuan malapit sa Bahay ni Jose Rizal at Parokya ni San Juan Bautista.

Calamba is a city located in the province of Laguna and it's famous for being the birthplace of the Philippine national hero, Jose Rizal.

Did you know, according to Calamba's folklore, it got its name from the words "kalan" (stove) and "banga" (jar)? On the other hand, based on the book Vocabulario de la Lengua Tagala (1754) by Fr. Juan Noceda, "calamba" refers to a big jar or a cane with lines and painted features. In addition, Fr. Francisco Manuel Blanco's book Flora de Filipinas (1837) recorded "calamba" as a type of resinous tree.

However, the folklore of "kalan at banga" remains popular; in fact, a large monument of a kalan and banga was constructed during 1937-1939, which is located near the House of Jose Rizal and the Parish of Saint John the Baptist.

𝐆𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝟐, 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝟐: 𝐑𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐖𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫

Yesterday, 25 April 2026, the Southern Luzon Cluster of Museums of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines successfully conducted the public program entitled Gilded Legacies: Rizal as a Writer. The lecture highlighted Jose Rizal as a prolific writer whose works exposed injustice under Spanish colonial rule and helped awaken social and political consciousness.

To further honor Jose Rizal's literary legacy, the Southern Luzon Cluster of Museums, through its guest speaker, Mr. John Paul E. Abellara, Head of Creative Content of Regal Entertainment, introduced a scriptwriting lecture and workshop inspired by Rizal’s works.

The workshop aims to enable participants to see storytelling as a tool for expressing ideas, addressing social issues, and creating meaningful scripts for film, stage, school projects, or digital media. Various students from tertiary institutions participated in the event, which was held at the NHCP - Museo ni Jose Rizal, Calamba.

Ang Museo ni Jose Rizal Calamba ay taos-pusong nagpapasalamat sa mahalagang ambag at tapat na paglilingkod ni G. Teodoro Derrick Villa, Shrine Curator II, sa ating museo.

Mula sa Tahanan ni Rizal sa Calamba patungo sa Tahanan ni Mabini sa Tanauan, maidadala mo ang mga aral at serbisyong may bilis, husay, at tapat na may malasakit sa tao.

Dalangin namin na patuloy mong maisabuhay at maipalaganap ang mga aral ng batang Rizal sa iyong bagong yugto bilang bagong Shrine Curator II ng NHCP Museo ni Apolinario Mabini, Tanauan.
