For hundreds of families still rebuilding their lives after the devastating earthquake that struck Cebu in September 2025, help continues to arrive.
Cebu Governor Pam Baricuatro personally led the distribution of calamity assistance in the Municipality of Borbon on Thursday, June 4, bringing much-needed support to families whose homes were totally destroyed by the disaster.
Each beneficiary household received β±10,000 in cash assistance and 10 kilograms of rice, providing immediate relief as they continue their recovery journey.
In her message, Gov. Pam shared that one of the most fulfilling parts of public service is being able to personally meet, listen to, and connect with the people.
βMas malipay gyud ko nga naa kos probinsya. Makighimamat ninyo β mao gyud na akong kalipay sa tinuod lang. And that is the best part of being governor nga naa koy tsansa nga makastorya ta, makakita ko ninyo, maka-meet ko ninyo, maka gunit ko ninyo,β the Governor said.
She also reaffirmed her commitment to focus on service, unity, and development for Cebuano communities.
βFor now, dili sa ko gusto magpolitika kay para nako, trabaho sa ta sa atong administrasyon. So mao na nga atong atimanon karon, sa Cebu lang β atong panaghiusa, atong paglambo diri sa Cebu,β she added.
Beyond the cash and rice assistance, the Provincial Government also extended livelihood support to Borbonβs farming and fishing communities. Farmers received 10 carabaos with plows, 20 goats, fertilizers, vegetable seeds, calamansi seedlings, and other agricultural inputs, while fisherfolk beneficiaries were provided Amazon net screens to help strengthen their livelihood.
The activity was facilitated by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and the Provincial Treasurerβs Office, with the support of Board Members Nelson Mondigo and Mike Villamor, Borbon Mayor Nico Dotillos, and municipal officials.
For Gov. Pam, recovery is about more than providing assistanceβit is about restoring hope, rebuilding livelihoods, and assuring every Cebuano family that they are not facing their challenges alone.
Because when communities rise after disaster, Cebu rises with them. π
