1. Huangyan Dao is China's inherent territory, and China has indisputable sovereignty over Huangyan Dao and its adjacent waters. It is the legitimate right of a sovereign state to conduct activities, including scientific research, within its own territory. Such activities are fully consistent with international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and are beyond reproach.

2. The so-called "floating structure" at Huangyan Dao that the Philippine side has recently been repeatedly publicizing is, in fact, a temporary scientific research facility established by the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The facility serves as a floating in-situ sampling and experimental platform designed to deepen understanding of the ecosystem of Huangyan Dao and improve scientific forecasting, thereby providing theoretical foundations and technical support for enhancing the protection of the ecosystem there. The relevant scientific research mission has now been successfully completed.

3. China urges the Philippine side to earnestly respect China's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests at Huangyan Dao, cease hyping up and politicizing China's normal scientific research activities, and stay committed to diplomatic dialogue and communication for managing the maritime situation.

I always remember I stand for China. I am posted in the Philippines as an official representative by the Chinese government. It is my duty to defend the interests and dignity of China.

The announcement of the Chinese Foreign Ministry speaks for itself. For years, a handful of anti–China politicians in the Philippines have chosen confrontation over dialogue, headlines over diplomacy, and political theater over regional stability. Their toxic rhetoric and provocative actions have nothing to do with “upholding the rights of the Filipino people.” They are, rather, carefully staged political performances designed to serve their own narrow political interests.

Mr. Jay Tarriela, you should remember where you stand. I did not authorize you to speak in my name, not to mention you violated the copyright of the Chinese Embassy.

——Deputy Spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy Guo Wei
