Davao City โ LTFRB XI, headed by Regional Director Nonito A. Llanos III, expressed its sincere appreciation to Mindanao Star Bus Transit for its invaluable assistance to passengers affected by the temporary closure of the General Santos City Airport following the recent strong earthquake.
During the period of disruption, flights originally bound for General Santos City were diverted to Davao International Airport, leaving many passengers in need of onward transportation.
In line with the directives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., through DOTr Secretary Atty. Giovanni S. Lopez, Asec. Reyes and LTFRB Chairman Atty. Vigor S. Mendoza II, with the guidance of DOTr Usec. Mark Steven C. Pastor and DOTr Asec Dioscoro Reyes, LTFRB XI coordinated with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and Mindanao Star Bus Transit to facilitate direct bus services between Davao International Airport and General Santos City. LTFRB Chairman Vigor D. Mendoza II immediately authorized LTFRB Board Member Greg Pua Jr. to issue Special Permits for Mindanao Star.
Through the initiative, affected passengers were able to travel directly from the airport without the inconvenience of proceeding to the Davao Overland Transport Terminal, significantly easing their journey during an unexpected situation.
Regional Director Llanos underscored the importance of collaboration and swift action in ensuring the welfare of the riding public during emergencies.
"In times of crisis, the spirit of cooperation becomes even more important. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mindanao Star Bus Transit for their immediate response and willingness to assist affected passengers. Their support helped ease the burden of many travelers and demonstrated a genuine commitment to public service," Director Llanos said.
LTFRB XI also recognized the support of all concerned agencies and stakeholders whose coordinated efforts ensured that affected passengers were provided with safe, accessible, and reliable transportation throughout the airport disruption.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board - LTFRB, under the guidance of DOTr Secretary Giovanni โBanoyโ Z. Lopez, has temporarily suspended the operation of 24 units of a bus company following a road crash in Baguio City that left its employee dead and six passengers injured.
LTFRB Chairman Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said the suspension is for 30 days while the investigation is ongoing to determine if there were lapses committed under the rules and regulations of the issued Certificate of Public Convenience.
โWe commit to an impartial and no-nonsense investigation not only because it is our mandate but because it is the life and limb of commuters that are stake when it comes to public transportation,โ said Chairman Vigor.
The passenger bus involved a unit owned by the North Genesis Bus Line, Inc. in the road crash that happened on Tuesday, June 16 on Kilometer 6, Marcos Highway in Baguio City.
The bus conductor died after he was trapped inside the bus and based on the report, the bus was heading to Baguio City when it hit a truck that was parked alongside the road early morning on Tuesday.
At least six other people were injured and were taken to the hospital.
In the show cause order issued to the bus company, it mandated the drug testing of all bus drivers and road worthiness inspection of the 24 suspended bus units.
It also asked the bus company to explain in notarized writing why it should nor be sanctioned for hiring a reckless driver.
Chairman Vigor said all the license plates of the suspended units were asked to be surrendered to ensure compliance of the suspension order.
But he stressed the need to expedite the payment of insurance to the family of the deceased victim and all those who were injured. He tasked the regional LTFRB officials to regularly monitor compliance of insurance payment.
Chairman Vigor then advised PUV operators and drivers to do their share in road safety, saying the trust and confidence given by their passengers should be paid back by safe travel.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board - LTFRB, under the guidance of DOTr Secretary Giovanni โBanoyโ Z. Lopez, warned all operators of public utility vehicles (PUVs) to maintain the cleanliness of their units or face serious consequences.
LTFRB Chairman Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II issued the statement after the agency issued a show cause order (SCO) to a taxi operator after he personally went out on Thursday, June 11, to commute to monitor the status of public transportation in Metro Manila.
During his commute experience, he came across with a taxi with license plate AAO 8576 in the Intramuros area in Manila.
โLet me remind both operators and drivers that their authority to operate is not a right but a privilege that comes with a responsibility of maintaining not only road worthiness but presentability of each unit,โ said Chairman Vigor.
โOperating untidy PUVs does not only violate our rules and regulations, it also disrespects the passengers. We will not allow this so they better comply or lose the authority to operate,โ he added.
This is in line with the instruction of President Ferdinand โBongbongโ R. Marcos, Jr. to ensure the welfare and protection of commuters.
In the show cause order, the operator was asked to explain in notarized writing why its franchise should not be revoked or suspended for operating a dirty unit.
The operator was also mandated to bring the taxi unit to the LTFRB Central Office for inspection on June 15. The hearing of the case will be on June 30.
Chairman Vigor warned that defiance of the SCO will give the LTFRB the authority to rule on the issue based on available evidence aside from the P5,000 fine. # # #

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board - LTFRB, under the guidance of DOTr Secretary Giovanni โBanoyโ Z. Lopez, highlighted the importance of the commutersโ efforts in asserting their right against erring public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers.
This comes after a ride-hailing driver refused to convey passengers that include LTFRB Chairman Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II himself.
Chairman Vigor personally went out on Thursday, June 11, to commute in order to check on the status of the public transportation in Metro Manila. And it was then that he chanced upon a public utility vehicle bearing Plate No. NHD-1729, with the driver refusing to accept passengers.
Such action, he said, is a clear violation of the Item No. 2, Section IV of Joint Administrative Order No. 2014-01โa copy of it was sent to the operator along with the SCO.
โI encourage all our kababayan to immediately report similar cases, and it applies to all public utility vehicles. Kaya malakas ang loob ng karamihan sa mga ito dahil walang nagrereklamo,โ said Chairman Vigor.
โThe complaints that passengers send to us serve as the information that we will work on to impose discipline and ensure that both PUV operators and drivers are strictly following rules and regulations,โ he added.
In the SCO, the operator was given five working days from receipt of the SCO to explain why her Provisional Authority should not be canceled or revoked over the incident.
The hearing on the case is on June 23.
โFailure on the part of the respondent to appear before the Hearing Officer and file an Answer, shall be considered as a waiver on her part to be heard and shall cause the imposition of a penalty in the amount of Five Thousand Pesos (P5,000.00),โ the SCO read.
Chairman Vigor also emphasized the power of social media in compelling PUV drivers to behave, as he assured the public of the LTFRBโs immediate response to their complaints.
He said complaints can be coursed through email, social media accounts and LTFRB hotline 1342.
โLet us work together not only to keep our roads safe but in ensuring that passenger rights and protection are respected and observed,โ said Chairman Vigor. # # #
