A 13-year-old girl who can only see light and shadow just became the heart of one of the most historic moments in modern Barcelona.
Her name is Valentina.
She has Leber syndrome โ a condition that leaves her with only the faintest perception of light and shapes.
And today, she stood before King Felipe, Queen Letizia, and Pope Leรณn XIV and explained, with remarkable detail, the architecture of the Sagrada Famรญlia's Tower of Jesus.
She didn't just describe it.
She drew it.
With the support of the ONCE โ Spain's national organization for the blind โ Valentina had spent time learning every curve, every column, every symbol of Gaudรญ's tower through adapted resources and tactile models. She absorbed the structure not with her eyes, but with her hands and her memory.
And when the moment came, she ran her fingers across the model and walked through Gaudรญ's vision โ detail by detail.
At the end, she handed the Pope a drawing she had made of the tower herself.
A gift from a girl who has never seen it, to the man who had just blessed it.
The King congratulated her warmly.
The Queen stayed close, visibly moved.
Pope Leรณn XIV placed a rosary in her hands.
A girl who cannot see just showed the world what it looks like to truly look at something.

What began with one woman's rejected vocation has grown into a unique contemplative community in rural France: the Little Sisters, Disciples of the Lamb, the world's only congregation that includes sisters with Down syndrome.

A meaningful milestone for our PWD Liturgical Ministers! Special thanks to St. Jude Thaddeus Parish, led by its pastor and rector, Rev. Fr. Niel Aranas, and Fr. Gem Penetrante, PWD Minister of the Diocese of Legazpi, for their support and commitment to fostering a more inclusive Church community. May we continue building a Church where everyone is welcomed, valued, and empowered to share their gifts in service to God. ๐๐

The Albay Provincial Persons with Disability Affairs Office (APPDAO) celebrates the successful completion of the In-House Basic Filipino Sign Language (FSL) Training Level 1, conducted from March to May 2026.
Over the course of 18 hours of learning and practice, participants acquired foundational Filipino Sign Language skills while gaining a deeper understanding of Deaf culture, accessibility, and inclusive communication. More importantly, the training highlighted the value of learning directly from the Deaf Community, whose members served as trainers and co-facilitators throughout the program. Their lived experiences, expertise, and active participation enriched the learning process and provided participants with authentic insights into the realities, language, and culture of Deaf individuals.
This initiative reflects the Provincial Government of Albayโs commitment through the leadership of our Governor, Hon. Noel E. Rosal, to promoting disability-inclusive public service and fostering meaningful engagement with persons who are Deaf and hard of hearing. By strengthening communication skills and building greater awareness, we move closer to creating communities where everyone can participate fully and equally.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Deaf trainers and co-facilitators, participants, and partners for making this learning journey a success. Together, we continue to break communication barriers and build bridges of understanding, respect, and inclusion.
