In commemoration of World Refugee Day, the Embassy of Canada to the Philippines hosted a reception highlighting Canada’s ongoing commitment to refugee protection and complementary pathways.
The event served as a flagship moment in a week of World Refugee Day activities, developed in collaboration with UNHCR, the Philippines’ Department of Justice, and key partners working to advance refugee protection and programming in the country.
The evening also celebrated the strength, resilience, and contributions of refugee communities. A special co-catering collaboration with refugee-led and refugee-owned food businesses showcased not only diverse culinary traditions, but also the vital role refugees play in enriching and strengthening local communities in the Philippines and in Canada.
Together, we reaffirm our shared commitment to building inclusive, sustainable solutions and expanding opportunities for refugees to thrive.

The Embassy of Canada joins in Blue Monday in commemoration of World Refugee Day, standing in solidarity with the Philippines and its shared commitment to refugee protection.
Blue Monday encourages employees across Philippine government agencies to wear blue as a sign of solidarity and support for refugees, asylum seekers, and stateless persons around the world. For the Philippines, this year's theme, "Solutions in Motion, Rebuilding Futures Together", highlights the collective efforts of government agencies, international organizations, and communities in supporting and providing durable solutions and opportunities for displaced individuals as they rebuild their lives.
This occasion also provides an opportunity to reflect on Canada’s ongoing humanitarian commitment to refugees and other displaced people. Canada reaffirms its commitment to those seeking safety, and to the partnerships needed to protect people, strengthen communities, and help build lasting solutions.

World Refugee Day takes place each year on June 20. It is an opportunity to recognize the struggles and need for protection of those who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution.
On World Refugee Day, Canada recognizes the 75th anniversary of the 1951 Refugee Convention and the international refugee protection system it created, including the principle that people have the right to seek safety from persecution. Canada will continue to support people in need while strengthening the integrity of our protection programs. We are doing this by taking a responsible path that upholds our humanitarian tradition and allows us to work with partners to strengthen refugee protection, while keeping the system fair, well managed and sustainable.

Through the Canada-funded project "Empowering Stewardship in the Coral Triangle," we honor the courage and collective power of women leaders across a region believed to be the world’s epicentre of marine biodiversity – by learning side by side to heal reefs, strengthen community safeguards, and grow inclusive livelihoods.
In partnership with the Nature Conservancy, this project aims to empower women to lead and implement initiatives focused on natural resource management and climate actions. It seeks to build resilience and restore, conserve, and sustainably manage key biodiversity and protected areas in the Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Timor Leste, and Malaysia.
