Today, June 8, 2026, the Philippine Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (PATLS) reached a historic milestone during our General Assembly.

We celebrate a true icon today. It was a privilege to present the 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 to 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗮 𝗖. 𝗔𝗴𝗰𝗮𝗼𝗶𝗹𝗶, our Founding President, whose dedication has shaped the LIS profession for decades.

This award is a tribute to her exemplary contributions to Library and Information Science education. As a distinguished teacher and mentor, Prof. Agcaoili’s influence has guided generations of Filipino librarians and information professionals. Her commitment to the field has set the gold standard for education and practice in the Philippines.

As the certificate beautifully states:

Today, 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟖, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, the Philippine Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (PATLS) officially kicked off the first part of its General Assembly with a highly timely and insightful webinar on “𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐈𝐒 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.”

In Memoriam

The Philippine Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (PATLS) joins the LIS community in mourning the passing of Dr. Juan C. Buenrostro, Jr., former PATLS President.

Dr. Buenrostro served as PATLS President from 1990–1991 and again from 2011–2013, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, service, and commitment to the advancement of library and information science education in the Philippines.

We honor his contributions to the profession, his dedication to LIS education, and the many lives he touched as teacher, mentor, colleague, and leader.

Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues, former students, and the entire LIS community.

May his memory continue to inspire generations of Filipino librarians and LIS educators.

A Memorial Service in his honour -- jointly organized by UPSLIS, UPLSAA, and PATLS -- will be on May 19, Tuesday, 10:00-11:30am at the chapel. Colleagues and friends are enjoined to attend the service
