๐๐๐๐: BFAR Region 1 Director Remely B. Lachica paid a courtesy call to Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos of Ilocos Norte to discuss ongoing and future fisheries and aquaculture programs in the province.
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between BFAR and the Provincial Government to support fisherfolk, promote sustainable fisheries management, enhance aquaculture production, and improve livelihoods.
Both reaffirmed their commitment to advancing fisheries development, food security, and the welfare of coastal communities through continued partnership and coordinated implementation of fisheries initiatives.

โTo further promote sustainable aquaculture and provide alternative livelihood opportunities for local fisherfolk, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Regional Fisheries Office I (BFAR RFO I) successfully conducted a Dialogue and Coordination Meeting for the Sea Cucumber Project in Brgy. Bayambang, Infanta, Pangasinan.

โThe meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Infanta headed by Mayor Virgilio Vallarta, M.D., members of the Bantay Dagat, and the President and Vice President of the Bayambang Resettlement Samahan ng Mangingisda.

โThe discussions focused on the strategic plans for the establishment and operationalization of the sea cucumber nursery and grow-out facility in Bayambang, which is envisioned to serve as a sustainable aquaculture initiative that will enhance livelihood opportunities while supporting marine resource conservation in the municipality.

โDuring the meeting, BFAR-RFO I also revisited and elaborated on the provisions of the previously signed Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to ensure alignment, transparency, and a shared understanding of the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders.

โParticipants exchanged valuable insights and recommendations on strategies that will help guarantee the project's long-term sustainability, emphasizing collaboration, resource stewardship, and community participation.

๐๐๐๐ | The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Regional Fisheries Office 1 (BFAR-RFO1), in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment-Region 1 (DOLE Region 1) and local government units (LGUs), conducts an orientation and distributes Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including T-shirts, hats, and gloves, to beneficiaries of the 10-day TUPAD Program (Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers). This will help ensure participants' safety and provide identification while carrying out community work activities.
This initiative forms part of the assistance being provided to 177 eligible fisherfolk affected by the oil spill in Sinait, Ilocos Sur, and Badoc, Ilocos Norte.
The TUPAD Program is one of the Philippine government's emergency employment measures designed to provide short-term income support to disadvantaged, displaced, and vulnerable workers.

Seafood products from Region 1 attracted strong consumer interest and expanded their market reach during the Manila Foods and Beverages Expo (MAFBEX) 2026 held at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.
Among the exhibitors were BFAR Region 1-assisted enterprises ELDICA Seafood Processing and Sta. Catalina Food Processing Inc., which showcased a variety of value-added fishery products, including bottled bangus and flavorful crab paste. Throughout the expo, visitors flocked to their booth to learn more about locally processed seafood products and support homegrown enterprises from the region.
The participation generated Php 82,670.00 in total sales, highlighting the growing demand for high-quality processed seafood products from Region 1. Beyond direct sales, the event also provided valuable opportunities for the enterprises to engage with potential buyers and business partners through market matching activities, opening doors for future business collaborations.
Participants further benefited from attending fisheries forum conducted during the expo, where they gained insights into emerging industry trends, market opportunities, and strategies for business growth.
Through their participation in MAFBEX 2026, Region 1 seafood processors successfully introduced their products to a broader consumer base, strengthened their market presence, and demonstrated the regionโs capability to produce innovative and competitive seafood products.
