Certified workplaces provide dedicated lactation areas and grant a minimum of 40-minute paid lactation breaks. They also comply with DOH standards and uphold strict measures to prevent any direct or indirect promotion, marketing, or sale of infant formula and breastmilk substitutes within lactation stations.

Good nutrition during pregnancy helps give every child the best start in life 💯

This 🤰, UNICEF highlights the importance of quality antenatal care that includes a comprehensive maternal nutrition package. This includes early and regular antenatal check-ups, nutrition assessment, counselling and education, monitoring of maternal and fetal health, practical guidance on healthy diets and physical activity, and recommended micronutrient supplements to support a healthy pregnancy and reduce the risk of anaemia, low birth weight, and other complications linked to poor maternal nutrition. Every mother deserves quality, respectful care throughout pregnancy to give every child the healthiest start in life.

This work is supported by the Child Nutrition Fund, a catalytic investment that helps expand access to essential nutrition services for pregnant women and young children in the .

The 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐄𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 – 𝐋𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐄𝐌𝐍𝐂-𝐋𝐌𝐓) 𝐭𝐨 𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠-𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝟏 was successfully conducted on April 28–30, 2026 at Batangas Medical Center, Batangas City.

📍 The 3-day training was facilitated by the DOH CHD CALABARZON - Nutrition and Breastfeeding Program in collaboration with the Batangas Medical Center - Lactation Management Committee, with participants from various private and government hospitals across the region.

📚 Day 1 focused on lectures and interactive learning sessions covering key concepts and principles of essential maternal and newborn care, laws and policies on breastfeeding, lactation management, and the role of healthcare workers in providing appropriate support and counseling to mothers and families.

🎥🎭 Day 2 continued with comprehensive discussions, video demonstrations, and role-playing activities on breastfeeding counseling, allowing participants to apply communication techniques and counseling skills in various clinical scenarios related to maternal and infant feeding concerns.

🏥🩺 Day 3 highlighted practicum activities, including a hospital tour, cup feeding observation, exposure to human milk bank processes and face-to-face breastfeeding counseling of postpartum mothers. The training concluded with a post-test, awarding of certificates to participants, and closing ceremony.

👏 The successful conduct of this training reflects the continued commitment of healthcare institutions and professionals in promoting quality maternal and newborn care services and strengthening breastfeeding support programs in both private and government healthcare facilities.

As a national-level activity hosted by CALABARZON, the five-day training gathered participants from Centers for Health Development (CHDs) across the country. 🇵🇭 The activity aimed to enhance competencies in the implementation, assessment, and certification of health facilities and workplaces under MBFHFI and Mother-Baby Friendly Workplace (MBFW).

Through a combination of lectures, interactive discussions, and hands-on practicum using digital assessment tools, participants were equipped with essential technical knowledge, assessment skills, and effective training methodologies to support standardized nationwide implementation.

Graduates of the training are expected to serve as regional trainers and assessors, leading local capacity-building efforts, conducting external assessments, and managing the full certification cycle—ultimately strengthening efforts to promote, protect, and support breastfeeding 🤱🏻 and advance Mother-Baby Friendly Health Facilities and Workplaces across the Philippines.

In line with the Republic Act 10028: Expanded Promotion of Breastfeeding Act and the DOH Department Memorandum No. 2022-0111: Interim Guidelines on Mother and Baby Friendly Workplace (MBFW) Certification and Transitioning the Mother-and Baby-Friendly Health Facility Initiative (MBFHFI) Accreditation from Central Office from Centers for Health Development, the Center for Health Development CaLaBaRZon will conduct an assessment of the health facility’s compliance with the 10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding and the Philippine Milk Code to be accredited as Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital and Workplace.
