Philippines, Philippine Islands Silver Certificate
1906 (ND 1907) Two Pesos — Pick
PMG 35 Choice Very Fine

A note from the era when the Philippine peso was still closely linked to silver, this 1906 Two Pesos Silver Certificate is a strong reminder of how currency once carried a very literal promise: payment to the bearer in silver pesos, or in gold coin of the United States at equivalent value.

Produced by the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the design combines the formal engraving style of American security printing with distinctly Philippine monetary history. The front features José Rizal at left, red serial numbers, the red Manila overprint, and the J.F. Smith–F.A. Branagan signature combination. On the reverse, the blue ornamental design gives the note a completely different visual strength, centered by the large “2” denomination.

Graded PMG 35 Choice Very Fine, this example has circulated, but it retains the qualities collectors look for: readable details, good color presence, and an honest appearance that fits its age. An early Silver Certificate banknote and are documents from a time when Philippine currency was being shaped under American administration and backed by precious metal standards.

Philippines, “Victory Series” Treasury Certificate
ND (1944) Two Pesos — Pick
PMG 55 EPQ About Uncirculated

A beautifully preserved Two Pesos note from the Philippine “Victory Series,” an issue closely tied to the closing years of World War II and the return of Commonwealth authority in the Philippines.

Printed by the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, features the portrait of José Rizal, blue serial numbers, and the Osmeña–Hernandez signature combination. The face follows the classic pre-war Treasury Certificate format, while the reverse carries the bold black “VICTORY” overprint across its blue back design — the defining feature of the series.

Certified PMG 55 EPQ About Uncirculated, this example remains highly attractive, with strong detail, clean presentation, and original paper quality recognized by the EPQ designation.

Philippines, Philippine Islands Silver Certificate
1906 (ND 1916) Two Pesos — Pick
PMG 30 Very Fine

An attractive and historically important Two Pesos Silver Certificate from the Philippine Islands under American administration, printed by the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing and bearing the Harrison–Fitzsimmons signature combination.

This issue belongs to the early Philippine paper money series backed by silver coinage, with the face clearly stating its promise to pay the bearer Two Silver Pesos. The design reflects the period’s strong American engraving style, combining intricate black linework, blue security tinting, red serial numbers, and the familiar “Manila” treasury overprint.

Graded PMG 30 Very Fine, this note shows honest circulation while still retaining strong eye appeal, clear design details, and balanced color. The reverse, printed in a vivid blue layout, remains especially attractive, centered by the large ornamental “2” denomination.

The holder notes Minor Rust, a common consideration on surviving tropical-period Philippine notes, but the piece remains a desirable representative of this classic Silver Certificate type.

A fine example for collectors of Philippine banknotes, U.S.-Philippine issues, and early 20th-century colonial currency.

A noteworthy commemorative release for modern Philippine collectors.

For the 125th Anniversary of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, three official pieces were issued: the ₱3,000 commemorative banknote, the ₱125 Nordic-gold coin, and PHLPost’s commemorative stamps with first day cover.

The ₱3,000 note is easily the centerpiece. It features Chief Justice Cayetano Arellano, the first Chief Justice of the Philippines, and is especially interesting as BSP’s first commemorative banknote in vertical format. The design brings together several references to the Court’s history, including Lady Justice, the Supreme Court Session Hall, and the institution’s long line of Chief Justices.

The ₱125 coin continues the same theme, with Lady Justice on the obverse and the official 125th Anniversary emblem on the reverse. The use of Nordic gold gives it a distinct modern commemorative look, while the 15 stars represent the Justices of the Court.

PHLPost’s stamps complete the issue by highlighting Arellano and key Supreme Court buildings, including the Old Building along Taft Avenue, the New Building, and the Baguio Building.

For collectors, which piece stands out the most — the vertical ₱3,000 banknote, the ₱125 coin, or the stamp issue?

NGC MS62 Philippine 5 Piso Mint Error – On Bimetallic Planchet (7.6g)

At first glance, it looks like an ordinary 2012 Philippine 5 Piso.

This coin was struck on an incorrect bimetallic planchet, resulting in a certified mint error recognized by NGC. Errors involving the wrong planchet are among the most enthralling minting mistakes, as they occur before the coin is even struck.

Considering the millions of 5 Piso coins produced for circulation, it's unusual that pieces like this occasionally escape the mint and enter everyday commerce.

Have you ever looked twice at the coins in your pocket?

NGC MS62 Philippine Piso (2017-2020) Multi Struck Mint Error

It's not every day that you see a Philippine Piso struck more than once at the mint. The overlapping designs are the result of the coin failing to eject properly before receiving additional strikes.

What makes this piece even more interesting is that this coin type is still circulating today. Imagine how many hands this coin may have passed through before someone noticed it was different.

Have you ever found anything unusual in your change?
