JOSE ABAD SANTOS, DAVAO OCCIDENTAL UNDER STATE OF CALAMITY AFTER STRONG EARTHQUAKE

The Municipal Council of Jose Abad Santos has officially declared a State of Calamity following the strong earthquake that caused significant damage across the municipality.

The declaration was announced by Municipality of Jose Abad Santos Mayor Jason John A. Joyce through his social media account on the evening of June 9, 2026. According to local authorities, the declaration aims to fast-track the mobilization of resources and the implementation of emergency measures as damage assessment, response, and relief operations continue in affected communities.

The Municipal Council of Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental has declared a State of Calamity following the strong earthquake that caused significant damage across the municipality.

MINDANAO EARTHQUAKE UPDATE

Patuloy ang paghahatid ng agarang tulong sa mga komunidad na apektado ng lindol sa Mindanao. Nitong hapon ng Martes, Hunyo 9, matagumpay na nakapagpadala ang Department of Social Welfare and Development - DSWD ng 220 family food packs (FFPs) at 100 modular family tents patungo sa munisipalidad ng Glan, sa tulong ng ng Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

Ang mga FFP ay magsisilbing pansamantalang pantawid-gutom ng mga pamilyang naapektuhan habang limitado pa ang kanilang access sa pagkain. Samantala, ang mga modular tent ay magsisilbing pansamantalang tirahan ng mga pamilyang nawalan o nasira ang tahanan bunsod ng malakas na lindol na tumama noong Lunes, Hunyo 8.

Ayon sa DSWD, nananatiling mahigpit ang koordinasyon nito sa mga katuwang na ahensya ng pamahalaan upang matiyak ang maagap at maayos na pagdating ng tulong sa mga apektadong lugar. Ang mga hakbang na ito ay alinsunod sa direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. na tiyaking mabilis na naipararating ang kinakailangang ayuda sa mga mamamayang lubhang naapektuhan ng kalamidad.

PANOORIN | Nagsagawa ng inspeksyon ngayong araw si DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon sa gumuhong bahagi ng General Santos City–T’boli–Surallah Road, isa sa mga kritikal na kalsadang nag-uugnay sa General Santos City at Surallah sa South Cotabato.

Sa isinagawang pagbisita sa lugar, iniutos ng Kalihim ang agarang technical assessment upang mapabilis ang pagbuo ng plano at konstruksyon ng isang detour road malapit sa gumuhong bahagi ng kalsada, nang sa gayon ay muling madaanan at maging ligtas para sa mga motorista sa lalong madaling panahon.

Kasabay nito, patuloy na nagsasagawa ng clearing operations ang Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) sa mga landslide-prone na bahagi sa kahabaan ng nasabing kalsada upang alisin ang mga bara at higit na matiyak ang kaligtasan ng mga dumaraan.

PIA Sultan Kudarat | EARTHQUAKE UPDATE

The provincial government has expanded the suspension of work and construction activities across Sultan Kudarat as authorities continue safety and structural inspections following the recent earthquake.

Under Supplemental Executive Order No. 130-A, Series of 2026, all work in private establishments and all public and private construction activities are suspended effective June 8. This measure allows engineers and safety personnel to conduct thorough assessments of buildings and infrastructure to determine possible damage and ensure public safety.

Despite the suspension, essential services remain operational, including hospitals, emergency response units, DRRM offices, and utility providers, subject to strict safety protocols.

Meanwhile, temporary medical tents have been set up outside the Sultan Kudarat Provincial Hospital to ensure the continuous delivery of healthcare services while protecting both patients and healthcare workers amid ongoing post-earthquake monitoring and assessments.

EARTHQUAKE RESPONSE UPDATE | MINDANAO

Patuloy ang pinaigting na koordinasyon ng iba’t ibang ahensya ng pamahalaan, mga uniformed services, at mga lokal na pamahalaan kaugnay ng Magnitude 7.8 na lindol na yumanig sa Maasim, Sarangani.

Sa isinagawang pagpupulong ngayong umaga, kasama ang mga opisyal ng Department of National Defense (DND) at Office of Civil Defense (OCD), agad na tinalakay ang mga kinakailangang hakbang at response operations para tugunan ang epekto ng lindol sa probinsya.

Inihahanda na rin ang deployment ng mga national response teams upang tumulong sa mga apektadong lugar. Nakatakda namang magtungo sa General Santos City si OCD Administrator, Undersecretary Harold Cabreros, upang tiyakin ang mas mabilis na koordinasyon at epektibong paghatid ng tulong sa mga operasyon sa ground.

Patuloy ang monitoring at ang pinagsama-samang aksyon ng pamahalaan upang matiyak ang kaligtasan at agarang suporta sa mga apektadong komunidad.

LOOK | DSWD XII RESPONSE UPDATE

Agad na nagsagawa ng monitoring at pakikipag-ugnayan ang DSWD Field Office 12 sa mga joint monitoring and rescue operations kasunod ng Magnitude 7.8 na lindol na yumanig sa General Santos City.

Bilang bahagi ng agarang pagtugon, personal na binisita ni DSWD XII Regional Director Loreto Jr. V. Cabaya ang mga establisyemento at lugar na naapektuhan upang masuri ang lawak ng pinsala at matukoy ang mga kinakailangang tulong at intervention para sa mga apektadong indibidwal at pamilya.

Sa ngayon, patuloy ang assessment at validation na isinasagawa ng mga concerned agencies upang matukoy ang kabuuang epekto ng lindol. Inaalam pa rin ang eksaktong bilang ng mga nasawi o nasugatan kaugnay ng insidente.

Habang nagpapatuloy ang mga pagsusuri, nananatiling handa ang DSWD XII na magbigay ng agarang tulong at suporta sa mga komunidad na nangangailangan.

LOOK | EARTHQUAKE UPDATE

A school building of Tanao Bantilan Tao National High School in Baliton, Glan, Sarangani Province, sustained damage following the Magnitude 7.0 earthquake that affected the area.

In some locations, road access remains a challenge as portions of the highway are currently impassable, causing delays in the deployment of assessment teams and response operations. Authorities are working to reach affected areas as soon as conditions allow.

In light of the situation, the local government unit (LGU) has announced the suspension of classes and government office work as a precautionary measure, while reminding residents to stay alert for possible aftershocks.

TSUNAMI WARNING UPDATE | PCG HEIGHTENS COASTAL SAFETY MEASURES

Following the tsunami warning issued by PHIVOLCS after the Magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck offshore Sarangani today, June 8, 2026, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has heightened its operational readiness and coastal safety measures across potentially affected areas in Mindanao.

PCG Commandant Ronnie Gil L. Gavan immediately directed all concerned Coast Guard Districts, Stations, and Sub-Stations to implement precautionary measures, actively disseminate tsunami warnings to coastal communities, and closely coordinate with local government units and partner agencies to ensure public safety.

According to PCG Spokesperson Noemie Cayabyab, Coast Guard personnel have been deployed to assist in information dissemination and support evacuation efforts in vulnerable coastal areas, including Sarangani, Davao Occidental, Tawi-Tawi, Sulu, Basilan, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, Sultan Kudarat, and South Cotabato.

The PCG also strongly advised fishermen and coastal residents to strictly comply with the tsunami warning. Vessel owners with boats docked in ports and shallow coastal waters were urged to secure their vessels and move away from waterfront areas, while those already at sea were advised to remain in deep waters until further notice.

Meanwhile, Coast Guard units in affected regions have activated their monitoring and response protocols to ensure the timely flow of information and the readiness of assets and personnel for possible search, rescue, and humanitarian assistance operations.

Guided by the directive of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and anchored on the PCG’s iCARE campaign, the Philippine Coast Guard remains committed to protecting lives and ensuring the safety of communities during this critical time.

EARTHQUAKE UPDATE | DSWD ON RED ALERT

Kasunod ng Magnitude 7.8 na lindol na yumanig sa Sarangani, naka-Red Alert ang Department of Social Welfare and Development - DSWD at handang-handa nang maghatid ng agarang tulong sa mga pamilyang maaaring maapektuhan ng sakuna.

Sa ngayon, may nakaimbak na mahigit 1.1 milyong family food packs (FFPs) at 80,172 non-food items (NFIs) sa iba’t ibang DSWD warehouses sa buong Mindanao. Layunin nito na masigurong mabilis ang pagresponde at pamamahagi ng tulong sa oras na kailanganin ng mga komunidad.

Patuloy ring nakaantabay ang DSWD upang magbigay ng karagdagang suporta at augmentation sa mga local government units (LGUs) para sa anumang relief operations. Ito ay alinsunod sa direktiba ni Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. na tiyaking agad at maayos na naihahatid ang tulong sa mga pamilyang nangangailangan tuwing may sakuna.

In the immediate aftermath of the Magnitude 7.0 earthquake, the Bureau of Fire Protection – General Santos City swiftly mobilized its personnel to help ensure public safety across General Santos City.

Fire responders were promptly deployed to conduct rapid damage assessments, assist in evacuation efforts, and closely monitor affected areas. Teams also carried out rescue operations, successfully extricating trapped and injured individuals from various establishments, while remaining on heightened alert for possible aftershocks and other earthquake-related emergencies.

Meanwhile, FSINSP Von D. Sancho, Deputy City Fire Marshal of BFP GenSan, reminded residents to prioritize safety at all times, avoid entering visibly damaged structures, and immediately report emergencies through official channels.

This quick and coordinated action highlights the critical role of first responders in protecting lives and supporting ongoing disaster response efforts especially in the crucial hours following a major earthquake.
