PNP NABS 1, SEIZES 6 UNLICENSED FI****MS INCLUDING KG9 WITH SILENCER IN SOUTHERN LEYTE

The Philippine National Police, under the leadership of PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., sustained its intensified campaign against loose fi****ms through a successful law enforcement operation in Barangay Batuan, Maasin City, Southern Leyte on June 16, 2026. The operation resulted in the confiscation of six unlicensed fi****ms, including a KG9 fitted with a silencer, and the arrest of one suspect.

The operation was conducted by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Southern Leyte Provincial Field Unit, in coordination with the Provincial Mobile Force Company and territorial police units, for violation of Section 28 of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Fi****ms and Ammunition Regulation Act. Seized from the suspect’s possession were one KG9 with silencer, three caliber 9mm pistols, one caliber .45 pistol, one caliber .22 pistol, assorted magazines, and live ammunition.

Arrested during the operation was alias “Dong,” a Filipino male of legal age and a tricycle driver, who was found in possession and control of the fi****ms without the required License to Own and Possess Fi****ms. Investigation further disclosed that the suspect was allegedly engaged in gunsmithing activities without the necessary authority and license from the PNP Fi****ms and Explosives Office.

PGEN Nartatez underscored that the removal of loose fi****ms from communities directly contributes to crime prevention and public safety.

“Ang mga ilegal na armas ay madalas na ginagamit sa paggawa ng krimen. Patuloy nating hahabulin ang sinumang lumalabag sa batas at naglalagay sa panganib ng ating mga komunidad,” said PGEN Nartatez.

The accomplishment supports the PNP Focused Agenda, a strategic framework for transformation designed to make police service more responsive, accountable, and professional. In particular, it advances the key priority of Enhanced Managing Police Operations through sustained law enforcement actions that prevent the proliferation of loose fi****ms and strengthen peace and order in communities.

PGEN Nartatez likewise emphasized the PNP’s commitment to enforcing firearm laws and dismantling illegal sources of weapons.

“Walang lugar ang mga ilegal na baril sa ating lipunan. Lalo pa nating paiigtingin ang ating kampanya laban sa mga ilegal na armas at sa mga taong sangkot sa paggawa at pagpapakalat nito,” he added.

The arrested suspect is now facing charges for violation of Republic Act No. 10591, while the confiscated fi****ms and ammunition have been placed under police custody for documentation and evidentiary purposes as part of the ongoing case build-up.

As the PNP continues to intensify its campaign against loose fi****ms and pursue individuals involved in the unlawful possession and manufacture of weapons under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., it assures the public of “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong mabilis, tapat, at nararamdaman.”

PNP ARRESTS SUSPECT IN BACOOR SHOOTOUT, HUNT ON FOR COHORT

The Philippine National Police, under the leadership of PNP Chief, PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., arrested a 26-year-old Filipino male suspect following an armed encounter with a police officer on June 23, 2026 along River Drive, Barangay Molino III, Bacoor City, Cavite.

The suspect, who is now under police custody while receiving treatment at a government hospital, was apprehended after he and another individual allegedly opened fire on an off-duty Bacoor City police officer who was on his way home aboard his personal motorcycle. The police officer, who was unharmed, was able to defend himself and hit one of the assailants, while the other suspect, identified only by the alias “Erwin,” fled and remains the subject of a continuing manhunt.

Initial investigation showed that the police officer chanced upon the two suspects seated on a parked motorcycle and observed their suspicious presence along the roadside. As he moved to verify the situation, the two men allegedly disembarked and suddenly fired at him, prompting the officer to return fire in self-defense using his issued firearm. The exchange resulted in the wounding and subsequent arrest of one of the suspects, while his cohort escaped toward Molino Road.

During questioning, the arrested suspect disclosed that he and his cohort had gone to the area in search of a possible victim to rob at gunpoint. Recovered from the arrested suspect was a .38 caliber revolver without serial number, loaded with one fired cartridge case and four live rounds. Also recovered from the scene were a blue-and-black motorcycle without plate number, a detached plate number, a white helmet, a steel knuckle, a cap, a black purse, and two fired cartridge cases for 9mm, all of which are now being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

Personnel from the Cavite Provincial Forensic Unit processed the crime scene and conducted forensic procedures in support of the case build-up, while investigators completed the inventory of the recovered firearm and ammunition in the presence of a barangay official. The firearm and ammunition are set to undergo technical examination, and criminal complaints for Attempted Murder and Violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Fi****ms and Ammunition Regulation Act, are being prepared for filing before the Office of the City Prosecutor for inquest proceedings. Police authorities are continuing efforts to locate and arrest the fleeing cohort.

PNP Chief PGEN Nartatez lauded the police officer for his presence of mind and lawful response in the face of danger, while emphasizing the organization’s sustained campaign against armed criminals and illegal fi****ms. “Our police officers are expected to act with discipline, courage, and sound judgment even under threat. This arrest reflects the determination of the PNP to stop armed violence and bring offenders before the law,” he said.

In a separate statement, PGEN Nartatez stressed that law enforcement efforts would continue until all those involved are held accountable. “Hustisya ang kahahantungan ng lahat ng sangkot sa pamamaril na ito. Tuloy ang pagtugis sa kasamahan niyang tumakas upang matiyak ang kaligtasan ng publiko,” the PNP Chief said.

The successful police action reflects the PNP’s continuing commitment to its PNP Focused Agenda, a strategic direction for institutional transformation aimed at making police service more responsive and reliable. The operation highlights the PNP’s priority on Enhanced Managing Police Operations, as units promptly addressed the armed threat, secured evidence, and pursued the remaining suspect to support case filing and the pursuit of justice.

As the PNP strengthens its campaign against armed criminality and other threats to public safety under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., it assures the public of “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong mabilis, tapat, at nararamdaman.”
