Despite the cold and rainy weather, the senior citizens of Barangay Datakan came out in full force and full of energy to celebrate Senior Citizens Day as part of the 1st Patda Festival, with Congressman Kenneth Paolo Tereng as guest.
“Patda” refers to the stars and mountains embroidered in the handwoven Benguet fabric which started in Datakan, Kapangan, where weaving of Benguet fabric remains one of the community’s primary sources of livelihood and a proud symbol of its rich cultural heritage.
In his inspirational message, Congressman Kenneth recognized the hard work, resilience, and invaluable contributions of the people of Datakan, especially the senior citizens who have helped preserve the community’s traditions, values, and way of life through the years. He commended them for their unwavering dedication to their families and their role in shaping the younger generation.
Cong. Kenneth also shared a challenge that he often gives whenever he attends gatherings with senior citizens. He encouraged them that the next time they participate in community activities such as barangay assemblies, fiestas, or other local events, they should bring along a grandchild or any younger member of the community. By doing so, the youth will be exposed to community involvement, learn the importance of social connections, appreciate local culture and traditions, and be inspired to continue the spirit of unity, cooperation, and service that their elders have long exemplified.
