Director Hannah Giray-Carcido, Officer-in-Charge of the Policy Development and Planning Bureau, chaired the 15th Meeting of the Ad Hoc Working Group (AHWG) to Develop the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Strategic Plan in Dili, Timor-Leste.

Hosted by the Government of Timor-Leste and the ASEAN Secretariat, the meeting marks a significant milestone as one of the first ASEAN meetings hosted by Timor-Leste following its admission as ASEAN’s newest member.

In her opening remarks, Director Giray-Carcido emphasized the importance of finalizing the ASCC Strategic Plan, Results Framework, and Baseline Study—key deliverables that will guide ASEAN’s socio-cultural cooperation in the years ahead. As the Working Group approaches the completion of its mandate, she acknowledged the collective efforts of ASEAN Member States and partners in shaping what will be a lasting contribution to the future of the ASEAN Community.

DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, Chair of the 2026 ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Council, formally opened the ASEAN High-Level Forum on Unlocking the Silver Economy on June 3.

Joining the Secretary is SOMSWD Philippines, Undersecretary for Policy and Planning Group Adonis P. Sulit. The event serves as a platform to advance discussions on improving the quality of life and strengthening the participation of older persons in socio-economic development across the region.
