๐๐ข๐ข๐ | Tacloban City marked the 128th Philippine Independence Day and its 74th Charter Day with a solemn flag-raising ceremony held on the morning of June 12, 2026, at the Tacloban City Hall Grounds.
The commemorative program was attended by city officials and employees, along with members of the city's uniformed services, who gathered to honor the nation's history and celebrate Tacloban's continued growth and progress.
During the flag-raising ceremony, a wreath-laying activity and a 21-gun salute were conducted in tribute to the Filipino heroes whose courage and sacrifices paved the way for the country's freedom from colonial rule.
The celebration was led by Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez and Vice Mayor Raymund A. Romualdez, who joined participants in reflecting on the significance of independence and responsible nation-building.
In his message, Mayor Romualdez emphasized that freedom carries with it a duty to serve and contribute to the nation's future. "The freedom we enjoy today is not merely the absence of foreign rule. Freedom is a responsibility. Freedom is discipline. Freedom is the courage to build something greater than ourselves," Mayor Romualdez said.
The twin celebration served as a reminder of the enduring values of patriotism, unity, and public service while honoring both the nation's hard-earned independence and Tacloban City's 74 years of local governance and development.

EL NIรO CONDITIONS NOW PRESENT IN TROPICAL PACIFICโ PAGASA
๐ช๐๐๐ง๐๐๐ฅ ๐ก๐๐ช๐ฆ | DOST-PAGASA has reported that El Niรฑo conditions are now present in the tropical Pacific after the relative sea surface temperature anomaly reached the +0.5ยฐC threshold in May 2026.
According to the weather bureau, most climate models indicate an over 80% probability that the current conditions will develop into a full-blown El Niรฑo event, which could persist until early 2027.
El Niรฑo typically brings below-normal rainfall across much of the country, increasing the risk of dry spells and drought, particularly in vulnerable areas. However, above-normal rainfall may still occur in the western sections of the Philippines during the southwest monsoon or Habagat season, especially when enhanced by tropical cyclones.
PAGASA said it will continue to closely monitor the evolving El Niรฑo conditions and their potential impacts on the country's climate and weather patterns.
